I got cashback for an Austria rental!
by talljay
Even though the T&C says "Cash Back not available for rentals outside the US & Canada, or those made with contracted and/or corporate rates." I got my 3% for a rental in Austria (I made the reservation from the US through the FW link). This was an unexpected tiny windfall. YMMV

Avis dropped the ball big time with me!
by MsChantal
In April, I rented a car to drive from Philly to the Poconos. About a half an hour up route 309, I blew out a tire (gotta love those potholes). I pulled into a Sunoco in Centerville and called Avis for road service. Instead of sending someone to change the tire (which I would have preferred), they opted to send me a replacement car. Here's the thing...since I rented the car in Philly, Avis dispatched the replacement car from Philly International Airport...from South Philly, where all the sports stadiums are...on a Game Night. I ended up waiting at the Sunoco from roughly 7 pm until 1:30 am. The Sunoco closed and turned its lights off at 10pm. I should also point that I am African-American, and the neighborhood that I was stuck in--alone--is NOT.

Fast-forward to when the tow-truck finally arrives. The driver, who was understandably livid, mentioned that LVI (Lehigh Valley International) was a half-hour away from the Sunoco Station. Then he pointed in another direction and said, "I live ten minutes that way, and I still have to take this car back to Philly tonight."

Fast-forward to when I gave back the car. I never got to explain any of this situation to the little girl behind the counter because she was too busy chastising me for giving the car back with the fuel tank 1/16th of an inch under the half-way mark. She actually told me to go back out and put more gas into it! No, I did NOT compensated for the $12 I put into the tank that day nor for the full tank of gas I put into the first car and never got to use!

Oh, it gets better...fast-forward about a month later. I get a damage report from Avis' insurance division, requesting that I pay for $1934 worth of damage to the first car! I only blew out the right-front tire, but I'm seeing pictures of dents and damage on the driver's side that was not there when I had it. I've made the necessary statements to Avis about their attempts to pad my bill, and I have received no response from them to date. That's fine by me.

My point is that Avis flunked customer service when it came to solving my problem. They completely disregarded the needs of the customer, and that is bad business.
