T5i

Deal Editor's Note: If you plan on taking video with this camera check out this current deal on a refurbished 40mm 2.8f STM Lens. The STM feature will keep your auto focus quiet on the internal mic. This wouldn't be a bad first lens for anyone who just grabs the T5i body either, although it is a bit limited compared to the 18-55mm.

Really?  Which features make it better in your opinion? From what I remember neither was the clear better buy and there were tradeoffs to either model.  It's been awhile since I researched cameras.

If you want to shoot a lot of video, the T5i is better.  The T3i doesn't support the STM feature on those lenses.

The 3x crop mode does not make it a better camera even if that feature is useful to some.
The T5i has a newer sensor, comes with newer glass, etc.

I believe Magic Lantern adds the 3x Crop feature back for the 650D and 700D AKA T4i and T5i. I will test it out when I get home.

It also has a newer image processor (DIGIC 5 vs DIGIT 4), so you get max ISO of 12800; the T3i's max is only 6400.  The T5i has 9-point, all cross-type AF; the only cross-type AF point on the T3i is the center one.  For me, this and the DIGIC 5 are probably the biggest perks without even considering smooth AF with STM lenses in Live Mode.

$629 for the T5i body + 18-135 STM is a bargain.  By itself, right now, the 18-135 STM is $373.99 (and OOS).

Edit: Corrected terminology.

Part of having a newer sensor (DIGIC 5 vs DIGIT 4) is you get max ISO of 12800; the T3i's max is only 6400.  Also, the T5i has 9-point, all cross-type AF.  The only cross-type AF point on the T3i is the center one.  For me, this and the DIGIC 5 are probably the biggest perks without even considering smooth AF with STM lenses in Live Mode.

DIGIC is a processor, not the sensor
