Found a great deal if your looking for free cell phone service. Basic 200 package is FREE and includes 200 Voice Minutes, 500 Texts, and 500 MB of Data. Otherwise you can go with the Unlimited package for $10.99/month. The Unlimited package includes unlimited voice minutes, unlimited texts messages, and 500MB of data.
This service has potential for people who want bare-bones smartphone service and don't mind regular missed or dropped calls. The phone your are buying is around 4 years old and the version of Android they are using is very out-of-date, presumably with no way to upgrade it and retain your free phone service. If you're a fan of the latest and greatest, this is definitely not for you, but the price isn't $100/month like a modern smartphone would cost either.
3v1l said: It uses Sprint WiMax so check your local Sprint coverage. It also uses Sprint 3g. They are only selling it in locations that have wimax also to cut costs. Calls are voip only over 3g and Wimax. Sprint 3g has pretty solid in city coverage, It will be the best in city coverage in the next 6 months. Service will comparable to the Virgin Wireless coverage area. This is a beta voip service and only time will tell. I bought one.
I would sign up if there was an option to use a modern Android phone (like a Nexus 4 or Nexus 5) instead of the ancient phone they are selling right now. I would not mind paying full retail price for the phone.

I have no personal experience or knowledge with/about this company other than what i googled over the last few minutes. It seems they use Sprint data and VOIP for the calls, basically calling over the data connection instead of making tradtional calls. This deal seems very interesting to me though. Actual free service for someone who can mainly use wifi, hook up google voice and groove ip together (or whatever other google voice solution they can figure out)
Freedompop actually doesn't make it easy for existing HotSpot owners to get newer devices. Like if you enter the email address you used for your HotSopt, and click Check for Availability. it always says "Email address already in use!" What a bummer

What a bummer You can put in a bogus email, and at least check service. Just make sure, you don't complete the process, because it won't be your email address.
This is an excellent backup phone option, I like having Sprint in case Verizon's network gets jammed in an emergency, one more way to get a text out. Also it's nice to have in my backpack in case I drain my phones and backup batteries.
I was using their internet devices and I'm completely happy with Freedompop, had some issues but they where resolved very quickly. I'm happy so I will try this phone. I don't care that it's 4 year old, I just need it to make some calls and check emails so it's totally fine. In for 1 and then maybe another one for wife if it will be OK.
