Bait and Switch - and no refund!
*FALSE Advertising!* I was very excited to get a voucher for the "rooftop pool at Le Parker Meridien" on West 57th Street. $700 for two months is a lot -- but where can you get access to a rooftop pool in Manhattan on scorching summer days and evenings? It was my birthday when I finally got to use it the first time -- and guess what? It's not a rooftop pool! It's on the floor below the roof, and has a plaster ceiling above which big windows hardly make up for. I called to demand a refund and scold them for false advertising -- they refused. So I insisted I get to tell their complaint department my side of the story myself (usually customer service does that - but those guys were full of bologna). They didn't let me and refused the refund again. I have a screenshot of the voucher -- it definitely says ROOFTOP POOL. Amex will get my $ for me -- but Gilt City has lost a customer. Buyer beware!
So far, so good.
I've made a couple Gilt City purchases for beauty vouchers and they've been really good value and Gilt is very quick with issuing out vouchers to your e-mail so you can redeem whenever you want. If they keep up the great flash sales I will continue to patronize them.

Hello FWer's. Just wanted to pass along the horrible experience that is Gilt City. I ordered a voucher for $75 for Homejoy cleaning that was supposed to include a 2 month membership and 4 hours of cleaning plus supplies. This is a new cleaning service where you pay for a membership that then entitles you to an hourly cleaning rate. Unfortunately, after redeeming my voucher it seems that Homejoy was completely booked in my area. Strangely, their website offered me a $20 gift card if I would leave my email address so that they could let me know when they "were ready". In addition, instead of just using the 4 hours of cleaning that accompanied the voucher I was going to have to pay more because of the size of my house plus a higher hourly rate and cleaning supply fee. This is not what was on the voucher. I contacted Gilt City and asked for a refund. To my surprise, the operator placed me on hold so that she could use my voucher on the website to verify what I was telling her. She even came back and said that the voucher worked so what was the issue. She didn't bother to go any further. Anyway, long story short that I am waiting on some sort of escalation as to whether they can refund my money. I'll wait 24 hrs but then will dispute the charge with CC. My advice is to steer clear. I think some of these coupon deal companies are running out of legitimate deals and are really starting to get scary. I've had good success with refunds from companies such as AmazonLocal and Livingsocial but the coupons are just taking too much time and effort to try and redeem. I'm done with them.
