Wine-Country Tour: Wineries, Fine Dining, and Towering Redwoods in Sonoma County

Sonoma County’s gently rolling hills are dotted with hundreds of historical, family-owned wineries. Even though the region is a popular destination for wine aficionados, many of its wineries retain their quiet, rustic charm, particularly those in the Alexander Valley. This four-day, three-night wine-country tour begins in the Alexander Valley and includes accommodations at a country inn, a guided tour of several wineries, and a food and wine pairing at an estate winery. This Getaway does not include airfare.

Day 1: In the morning, make your own way to Geyserville, a picturesque town in the Alexander Valley, about 77 miles north of San Francisco. The Geyserville Inn will be your home for the next three nights. This small country inn is surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, and more than 100 wineries. After checking in, the rest of the day is yours to explore Geyserville on your own.

Day 2: A six-hour guided winery tour takes you through several of the wineries in northern Sonoma County. Each tour will be tailored to the requests of the group with a focus on small, family-owned wineries. The tour also includes a gourmet picnic lunch served on the grounds of one of the wineries, plus bottled water and a cheese platter on board the touring vehicle. Tasting fees are not included.

Day 3: A reserved, seven-course private food and wine pairing, highlighted by limited-production wine pairings, awaits you at a wine country estate. Afterwards, you’ll have lots of free time to visit wineries in Geyserville and surrounding towns

Day 4: Spend the day touring wineries and sightseeing at your leisure before heading home.

Healdsburg, California –¬ This charming wine-country town is lined with upscale restaurants that highlight local produce, meats, and, of course, wines. A historical plaza in the center of town often hosts live music at an outdoor bandstand.

Armstrong Redwoods State Nature Reserve – Stroll through a grove of towering coastal redwoods on the nature reserve’s self-guided trails, open for free year-round. These trees can live for more than 1,000 years and grow to a diameter of 12–16 feet.

Lake Sonoma – More than 40 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback-riding trails wend through the redwood forests surrounding Lake Sonoma. It’s a nice spot for an intimate lakeside picnic.
