I bought two of these from local HD. I tried them yesterday. The lumens are not acceptable. I will be returning them today. The lights flicker as you turn-up the dial for maximum lumens. And at max, the light is simply not enough for anything except as "night light."
I picked up 2 of these, the red ones look nice, the black ones look like red ones without the nice shiny color, sort of unfinished looking. For $4 they are great as a general tent lamp or area lamp in a time of power failure. Its true the light is not overwhelmingly bright, partially I think this is because of the use of a non clear tube around the actual bulbs, but if you had a power failure this would light up a room enough to do stuff and walk around and the light would be pretty evenly distributed. There is a plastic film inside that stop the batteries from working until you take out the batteries and remove the plastic film. I'm keeping my purchase as I feel its more than worth the $4 ea.

Most lanterns are way too bright and destroy night vision. Makes no sense to use a super bright light only to stumble around completely blind when you step outside at night. Too bad these are all OOS.
I bought but have not tried this latern. I bought five of these for the purpose of giving them away. I go to many types of fund raisers with raffles and items like these are a huge hit and I do not even have to bring a dish. I get invited because I have something to give to the raffle. So you might say for $4.00 I get to eat like a king, hang out with friends and meet new people and feel good that I had something to offer. On a side note the young lady at HD when I told her my story gave me a big hug..Gotta love a hug from a nice young lady!
