Doesn't the OP's combo come with two batteries also

Yes, it does.  The difference is that the OP option comes with two P102 compact LI batteries, while the option from jayK comes with two P107 compact LI+ batteries.  Some reviewers indicate the P107 lasts longer. The P107 also has a charge indicator on it.  So essentially one is spending $10 more for slightly better batteries with no impact driver in the post from jayK.  Or one can get the impact driver with the same number (but possibly slightly less robust) of batteries from the OP link.  Depends on one's preferences, I guess. I'd take the impact driver myself.

Seconded.  The impact driver is the deal here.  Great little screw gun.

I'm leaning towards Ridgid line as they have lifetime warranty on batteries.

My Hitachi cordless drill batteries don't hold a charge anymore so battery life is a big concern.

Good deal, in for a set. Thank you

Thanks for this. Missed it last time. I also picked up the two batteries for $99 recently so I should be good to go.

All the stores around me have 20+ of these in stock.  Order it for store pickup, or just go there and buy one off the shelf.

Here's the deal:

  • OP's comes with a standard drill/driver, impact driver, two 1200m/Ah batteries and a 30 minute charger.
  • jayK's deal comes with a compact drill/driver, two 1500m/Ah batteries and a slower 1hr battery charger.

I personally own OP's deal for about a year now and have used the compact drill/driver as well.

  • compact driver is a 'little' lighter but is quite a bit smaller in length so it fits better in small places.  Size is really not an issue if you are screwing things in (here comes the j/k's) because the impact driver is actually smaller than the compact drill.  Where the size became an issue was with drilling; the standard drill with a paddle bit was just a bit too long to fit in between my 16" joist bays.
  • I didn't notice any real difference between the standard/compact drills in terms of performance and/or power.
  • I didn't notice the weight much, only a few oz's, so I wouldn't worry about that too much.  I am guessing if weight was an issue you wouldn't be looking at these consumer grade tools anyway.
  • Impact driver is a bit disappointing.  Works great with most screws, but it does not seem to have enough power to break stuck bolts/nuts.  In other words don't expect it to be of much help working on the car.
  • I haven't noticed the smaller capacity of the 1200 m/Ah batteries being a issue.  I don't think I have ever been able to run a battery dry before the other battery was finished charging.

Final word?  Go with OP's deal, you will really get more for your $.  If you really need the features of the compact drill move on to another better suited product.  These are awesome deals for consumers/home owners, but if you are a professional who depends on theirs tools to make a living move along to respect brands for professionals.

To me the deal is the impact driver.  This is my tool of choice.  You can also use it as a drill if needed for tight spaces.  In the last year I have purchased this set, and the sets with drills/circular saw and drill/reciprocating saw around christmas.

Total cost was $80 for original set after using a HF coupon at HD.
$60 each for the saw sets after HF coupons.

This gives me 3 drills, 1 impact driver, 1 circ. saw, 1 recip. saw, 6 batteries and 3 chargers.  What a great deal.  The extra drills will work in the trailer and truck as a backup tool.  I have several Ridgid tools, older Ni/Cd batteries.  Batteries have started to die but since I did not purchase from HD i do not have the lifetime warranty.  They will be sold at a yard sale this summer as the Ryobi have been better tools IMO.

Also MSRP on OP deal is $149 vs $129 for jayK deal. So a "bigger" savings for OP deal.

I have this set, paid $129 last year... Still, the impact driver is AWESOME great for lugs on the car as well as screws!
Just grabbed one at this price for my Dad's birthday, he'll love it!

Was able to get it for $80 after using 20% Harbor Freight coupon

interesting, may try this tomorrow. I'll be near an HD that is about 3/4 mile from HF

rated:
I picked one up, thanks OP! My HD would not accept Harbour Freight 20% coupon, so I used a 10% Lowe's one instead. Sometimes I just don't feel like fighting for the ultimate deal. I'm happy with OP plus 10%.

I have an older Ryobi set (blue 18v drill + flashlight) in great condition. The batteries on that one are done.

HD sells the extended batteries for $99/pair plus the charger for $30, so I am in for $130 to use my existing tools.

Should I just keep the old tools and replace the batteries and charger, or dump that one and get this set? The batteries are short in this set.

rated:
If you think an impact driver would be useful at all, pick up this set. More tools > more batteries. The extended Li-On batteries are great if you need them for a bigger project, but these short Li-On batteries work fine for most DIY jobs, especially since you'll have two and they have a low discharge on the shelf (unlike the Ni-Cads). Plus they're much lighter than your old NiCads and that makes the tools easier to use. If you find that you want to pick up some extended batteries later, just look for them in November. They have that same 2 for $99 deal around Black Friday.

*I know how you feel about "wasting" a perfectly good 18V drill. I've just given them away to friends, or sold them for cheap on CL.

I have a Harbor Freight 25% cpn.
Should I expect better luck in-store?
