Above lights are on sale from 8/19 thru 8/24.  They are in two different packings, 2 pack sets are $27.88 and single pack ones are $14.88. I was looking for these lights for my basement finish project and I bought 10 of them (I don't remember the brand) at my Costco for $19.99 each (single pack).  Good thing is, I still did not install them.  Now I am planning to return the costco ones to save about $5 on each one.

There are two different prices (single pack and 2 pack), so I did not put the price in the title.

rated:
Are you retrofitting these into older cans or just installing them as is?

Put both prices in title.

This get's great reviews on Home Depot. However, I have a question. It's listed as a retrofit kit to replace recessed cans. What's the advantage of this kit over just using LED bulbs in the existing cans? Thanks.

  How about $14.88/single & $27.88/2pack.

If your fixture still looks good, use the bulbs now that they are readily available at costco. I got some of these, and have trouble keeping them flush against the cieling. If your trim is stained or dirty... these can be a good option.

I can't comment on these specific lights, but for anyone considering buying LED lights, connect one and see the color and brightness of the light. We recently installed about 20 LED recessed lights all over our house, but beforehand we bought 5 or 6 different retrofit lights and picked the ones with the color and light we wanted the most. We actually used different lights in our kitchen vs the rest of the house. There were some major color differences (cool vs warm), brightness outputs, and how they handled the dimmers. Just something to consider.

rated:
My fixtures have black inside them (only the outside ring is white) so you see a white ring, black inner part, then a mostly white bulb (mine have been replaced with CFL's

These look much better.. all white, one piece, etc. This will solve 2 big problems.. bulbs that heat up (LED's don't) and air leaks into attics and other spaces using a separate bulb. Those old cans are leaky and with a bulb/trim ring you have a bunch of cooled A/C air that is going into the hot attic in the summer. The air conditioning is basically wasted.

These look so much more modern, and they'll prevent air flow entirely. I have a few cans that have bugs between the bulb and the trim ring and it looks awful. This should look a LOT better.

For the price (approx $14 each) this is a great deal. I have 24 of them to replace.

These (and the ones at Costco) are supposed to be retrofit-able. However, they rely on hooking the two clips which may or may not work with existing lights. We have a few which worked (able to snag holes in the receptacle), but most had nothing to clip to, so we glued them to existing rims with caulking which worked (hold with paper clips until dry), except that some became too heavy for the fixture and pulled the whole assembly down slightly.

Be sure to check brightness and wattage. The ones we installed from Costco used 23 watts and were VERY bright and were NOT aim-able. For lighting up rooms and hallways, these are fine. For directed light, they don't work, and don't think about putting them anywhere in front of a TV. In some areas, we used 6 watt screw in LEDs and were able to use existing shrouds to direct the light with a reasonable brightness.

Our local Costcos have them intermittently at $19 - $20 less a $5 instant rebate. Out of around 20, we have had one fail (easy return at Costco).

rated:
Hmm this is very tempting. I think there are about 7 cans in my place currently, installed probably way back when. I actually replaced the flood lights in them with LED bulbs and they've been fine. Except it would be nice to get something a little more integrated. Is it difficult to replace/upgrade existing cans? Concerns about the fit, etc? Or was there a specific standard set for diameter of recessed lighting cans in general?

BTW: looks like the 2-pack is completely sold out

rated:
These produce 650 lumens which is about equivalent to a 60W incandescent light bulb. The color is 2700K (soft light) which is what manufacturer's shoot for for incandescent equivalent. Personally, I think it is too yellow especially in kitchens and bathrooms, but everyone has their own preferences.

I smell an upcoming battle with Home Depot (and possibly a credit card chargeback too)

Bought the 2-packs which should be $27.88 each.

Got an "Order Received" from HD and the price shown is $27.88 each. This came a minute after I placed the order.

An hour later I got an "Order Confirmation" and price is shown as $45.88 each.

For 24 units, my new price is over $200 higher than the original price.

I'm going to wait till they ship and then complain. They're probably going to tell me I should have done something when I got the Order Confirmation and that I should have noticed the higher price.

I don't care. They sent me an order receipt with an amount, so if they ship I expect that amount to be charged to my card or I'm filing a partial chargeback. They can't just send you an order confirmation (with no email or note saying the price changed) and expect YOU to notice and call them back to cancel the order. Prices don't get changed AFTER customers order things!

Anyone think I'll have any luck doing this? Or should I be pre-emptive and just call them now. The risk there is they'll just say "OK we will cancel your order then"

It does say "limit 10," which could mean five 2-packs.  But it also says the discount will apply to the first 10 items.  Strange that they just applied the regular price for you.  Have you checked your CC pending for the amount they actually charged?

rated:
Where are you seeing 'limit 10'?

I checked both the product pages for the single pack and the 2-packs and they both say "limit 20 per order". The page says nothing about limiting the discount for a certain amount ordered. I read the page as "you can buy 20 all at the sale price, but you are restricted to a limit of 20 no matter how much you want to pay". You can't buy more even at regular price.

The 2-pack page also says 'limit 20 per order' so I take that to mean you can buy 20 singles (total 20), or 20 2-packs (total 40)

My credit card pending amount only showed $1.10 when I checked, but that was before they sent this weird confirmation email with the higher price. Will have to go back and see what actually got charged.

Interesting. Didn't see that since they have hidden it so well under a drop down box that you have to click on.

I still have some questions for the HD folks though:
1. Why did my acknowledgement show the sale price, but later I got a confirmation that showed the full price (for all 12 units)
2. Why didn't they tell me the price changed, other than to send me a virtually identical "confirmation" that had a different price, without pointing it out?
3. If only the first 10 were at a sale price, why did they sell me all 12 at the same price (both before and after the price 'adjustment')

Gonna call HD and see what they say. I'm 99% sure they're going to weasel out of this by saying the order wasn't taken till the 'confirmation' stage and that the original acknowledgement is worthless.

Which brings me to question 4:
4. How can their shopping cart take an order that is invalid? It showed the wrong pricing logic (all 12 at the same price, not a separate price for 10 and for the other 2). Why did the shopping cart 'sell' me the product at one price now they want to adjust it.. shouldn't the shopping cart be properly programmed so it's correct? You can't take an electronic order these days and then go "whoops, we messed up".

Now that I've received my order confirmation, I've got to ask - your email doesn't show a promotional discount?  Mine lists the unit price at 24.97 (I had to get the singles as the 2-packs were sold out) and then says "Promotional Discount."  The Order Total under that reflects the correct price.

  recessed lights are evil

Recessed lighting cans allow lots of heat to escape into the attic.  The retrofit kits are sealed units that prevent the escape of your home's heat up into the attic.  There are many articles about it on the 'net.  The above link is one of the first I came across.

These are money makers if you have Potomac Edison as your electrical supplier. They currently have a $30 rebate on each of these retro kits until the end of December. I have installed 7 in my home and have received rebates on all of them.

Several years ago my son had over $20,000 in fire/smoke damage caused by a 60 watt incandescent bulb in an improperly installed recessed fixture (insulation packed around housing).
One of these LEDs would have saved him a lot of grief.
We have these in our kitchen and noticed that the color temperature makes everything look cleaner than cool white CFLs in the original housings.

I bought 4 of the 2 packs and the site seems to work fine.

Rocky Mountain Power has a $20 rebate on the single or double pack. Get the singles and pay $0. You can't make money with RMP, as they state that you can't be refunded more than you paid. I saw no limit to the number you could buy, however. Good deal!

While you are calling, why not also ask them why they shipped these in blue boxes rather than orange ones? You seem to already know they will do this, say that.

If you guys have HD Supply store near by, these LED lights are there for around $8 (will check exact prices there tomorrow).

Which division?  Also are the $8 price subsided by local power/governement?

Has anyone received any kind of order shipping info yet?

I ordered on Friday, but when I logged into the HD site right after ordering, it said "Order Processing"

If I log in now (2 days later, although it's a weekend) it still says the same thing.

I assume they're going to ship tomorrow (Mon) but just wondering if my order is held up for some reason. There is a preauth on my credit card for the full amount, so the card processing part seems to have gone though (which makes me think the order will ship very soon)

rated:
Haven't received any notification via email yet. Order was placed on the 22nd.

rated:
Just got an 'order shipped'. Looks like they shipped today from California via UPS ground so I'll have these next Tues.

Haven't received any further updates on prices from them... so I'm going to assume I got the sale price until I receive my order.. then I'll check credit card bill and their invoice online (since the transaction is finalized by that time)

rated:
Double check your Home Depot account. Mine now says the cost of item to me is the non-sale price of over $45 for a set of two, instead of the sale price of about $28 for set of two. Yet, the payment part says I paid about $30 (which includes the tax) and no other payment was charged.  I'll check the invoice when I get the lights.

rated:
Looked on the HD site and it shows my order at full (non-sale) price.

But checked my credit card and it shows the sale price. For the number of lights I bought, the difference in prices is nearly $200 so I'm obviously concerned about this

The credit card charge is an actual charge, not a pre-auth.

I guess they could always go back and charge me the difference, but for now it looks like I've been charged the sale price and all is good.

I'll wait till I actually get the printed 'final' credit card bill in about 3 weeks and see if anything has changed. Unfortunately by the time that bill shows up I'll have these all installed and will be unable to return them... at that point I'll have to argue hard with HD to adjust the price if anything goes wrong.

I do have a copy of the original page saved showing the sale price.. so that's my only ammo if things go wrong. Keeping my fingers crossed

I got eight of this specific brand from my local Menards about a year ago. The color is perfect, and they are just slightly brighter than the incandescents they replaced. They look much cleaner due to the trim part. I did end up needing new dimmers, the electronic dimmers work much better.

One last thing, when dimmed, LEDs are still white, not yellow. I do like that, but, it does take some getting used to.
