I looked at this but I came up with a better and cheaper option.  I've had the ASUS Transformer T100 since Black Friday when it was only $300 for the 64GB and it totally rocks.  You can get it at MacMall (ironic!) for $389.  http://www.macmall.com/p/ASUS-Notebook-Computers/product~DPNo~9797704~pdp.iebddid?source=mwbgoogleshop&adtype=pla&kw={keyword}&gclid=CO-KvcGa8LsCFYN_QgodmEMA2Q   It is a full Windows laptop in 2 pounds and with one button you can take a full windows tablet anywhere in 1lb.  It's got an 11 hr battery life.  About the only reason I think you'd want the surface pro is if you need the higher screen resolution, but my eyes can't use that resolution anyways.  Get yourself a fat microSD card to match the 128GB offered here and you've got money to burn and a great full laptop.

The Microsoft Surface Pro has an amazing Wacom Stylus Input which is a big feature.

AND this has a i5 compared to your Asus's Atom dude...

did you really compare an atom tablet to an i5?  lol...  don't be cheap, spend the extra $200 for better processor and graphics

you can also save 10% per Microsoft on the page if you are student/teacher...

NOTE:  keep in mind this is the older model.... newer surface is the surface pro 2

You are comparing a Porsche with a Corolla

The Surface is an actual Laptop replacement
Advantages of the Surface:
- Choose between two types of keyboards
- Twice the RAM
- 64bit OS
- Digital Pen
- 1080p
- Twice the memory with an actual SSD (Not MMC)
- i5 Processor
- Build quality

Advantages of the T100:
- Price
- Weight
- Battery life

I bought an open box from Bestbuy last week at $499 after the additional 10% coupon. It was actually registered with MS 2 weeks ago, so it is almost brand new. Try it these two days, everything is good except its battery life, holding time is too weak on a full charge, less than 4 hours. If the battery holding time is important to you, than you should look for something else.

i had the asus t100 and it sucks. keyboard is very cheaply made. worst than a netbook's keyboard. only think good about the t100 is battery life. i got 10 hours plus. i rather speed the extra money and get the surface this time around

i had the asus t100 too. had hoped it could play hearthstone and the resolution was too low and the atom left it crashing tempted to jump on this but will probably wait for the xps 12 to come back in stock

Sorry, I didn't know this was the Porsche users group.  Yes, I'd drive a Corolla at $20k over the $90k Porsche.

Computers are all a set of trade-offs.
As another user replied, the Surface Pro is more powerful and higher resolution, but more expensive with shorted battery life.
The asus has a weaker processor and lower quality screen, but 10h+ of battery and lighter and cheaper.

Choosing one over the other is more than just a matter of price, it is also a matter of requirements.
Rather than Porsche and Corolla, this is more like Corolla and F150. If you need the hauling capacity, you do not consider the Corolla, even though it is cheaper.

Can the Surface Pro run Photoshop competently?  Would one even want to run Photoshop with a tablet?  Just wondering how useful it would be for me if I was to get one.

I think the main point to have surface pro is to combine both laptop and entertainment pad into one, so you can use it for both work and entertainment purpose.

Absolutely I run it on a large screen via display port output and still have surface screen to run other things.

You can text "MSHS" to 30364 for a one-time use promo code. That drops this to $569.

rated:
Your promo code does not work. M$ will not honor it since the product is already discounted.

If this 1st-gen Surface Pro is a Porsche, and the Asus t100 is the Corolla, then what is my 1st-gen NOOKcolor? A Tercel?
Anyway, I'm a fan of Acura/Lexus, can you guys recommend me a tablet that falling into that mid-range category?

rated:
My local Best Buy agreed to honor the %5 MS discount on a new Surface Pro. A definite YMMV.
