So with rough #s all at the egg:

256GB Samsung 840 Pro Series SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive SSD $139.99 + Free Shipping

256GB Crucial MX100 Series 2.5" SATA III MLC Solid State Drive $90 w/ Visa Checkout + Free Shipping

240GB PNY Optima Series 2.5" SATA III Internal Solid State Drive $70 w/ Visa Checkout + Free Shipping

Why shouldn't I get the PNY, save $20 over the Crucial and $70 over the Samsung? I won't be keeping it for anywhere near MTTF: 1M Hours. A zillionth of a second faster is not a concern here. If I'm ill informed please inform.

Just so you know I know I'm posting this in all 3 SSD threads.

Bought this last week for 169... anyone have luck getting NE to match their own discounted price?

This is what I'm wondering, too. I have no idea of the failure rate on SSD and if one name brand manufacturer has a better quality product than others. I bought the recent Plextor 128GB drive from NE for $50 after discount and rebate (yet to be submitted) but have realized that 240 or 256GB may be useful sine my current drive is at about 118 GB full so am considering returning, paying the restocking fee and purchasing one of the above.

Check on customer service reviews for the different makers.  Some are MUCH better than others.

The discounting is because Samsung has released the 850 Pro... better specs, same price, so the 840 Pro is being closed out.

I have had this drive for over a year. Super fast. Amazing compared to my other smaller SSDs (Intel, OCZ, and Crucial). I paid over 200 for this. The performance has been consistently outstanding. I couldn't imagine having two in a raid array. Everything opens almost instantaneously, games are smooth. My video card was the laggard after I installed it.

Recommended.

The Samsung 840 and now the 850 are top of the heap when it comes to SSD performance and dependability.

This is a great site to compare SSD's: User Benchmarks

rated:
Thanks for the user benchmarks site. The Plextor I ordered didn't rate too well. Will consider return for the Samsung.

Also, don't forget to use Visa checkout with promo code "VCO" at Newegg. Not 100% sure if it stacks with the promo code they have, but it's good for 10% off (up to $200 purchase)

rated:
the code doesnot work for me( use it alone, no other code in used), I try and only VCO give 10%.
