Beware: I have had serious problems connecting these Samsung drives to my new HP Envy 15 with Win 8.1. Something in the driver library is incompatible or incomplete, and it prevents the drive from being recognized. Spent an hour on the phone with HP support; their conclusion is these drives are incompatible with Win 8.1. I'm not convinced that's entirely true, and ow I have drives that are, at best, very difficult to use.

Great price and a three year warranty!

I bought the same drive about a month ago. Had no problem using it with Win7 and Win8 computers.

I'm sorry you had to deal with HP tech support.  I have a feeling they were wrong because these Samsung-branded externals not only have a Seagate SATA drive inside them, but the USB-SATA interface circuit board uses the same chip found in WD and Seagate USB 3.0 drives.

That is a good point.....but with many stores showing approx 30% fail or DOA ratio it would be a real gamble.  I have had great luck with Samsung "green" drives,
but the normal ones have all had to be returned.  Toshiba has a similar desktop that is more expensive but out of five of their drives running 24/7 no failures and
no errors...and whisper quiet.
