Wish this was a 64mb Cache drive , then I probably jumb on it .

The 64Mb/7200rpm ones seem to be around $79.99 when they go on sale. I use this as my standard drive when building budget systems...

Maybe I shouldn't be so picky, but the 2 year warranty bothers me and is keeping me from pulling the trigger. I know this is a real good price for an everyday drive, but am I going to be pissed when it croaks 25 months from now? OK, so AMEX will add another year so now it's 3 years - is that good enough or should I just be actually thrifty (cost vs value vs time) and get the 2 TB Caviar Black with 5 years for 3 times what this costs?

Of course, by then, SSDs will be 20 cents/GB and nobody will be buying hard drives with platters anymore. I'm making myself crazy here.

Loud as hell too. Not worth it in my book. Just get a Caviar Black or Green.

But I feel you Wizz. I don't want to buy any hard drives for 2-3 years just because SSD's will be so yummy by then!

Don't know what you guys are talking about, mine are all whisper quiet...

I'll agree on the noise. Have owned a few of these 1TB drives and not a single one does not make more noise than my WD.

Guess I'm the lucky one, even running Diskeeper I don't hear a peep. Are you guys sure your talking about the ST31000524AS and not the ST1000DM003 ?

I prefer the ST31000524AS to a WD Blue 1TB but I agree that the WD Black 1TB is the best choice in a 1TB if you don't mind paying the extra. The $30 extra does add up however when doing systems in any volume.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about. My terabyte drive is fast, quiet, and has been running strong since 2011. It has a 32mb Cache and i really dont see why it's necessary to care about Cache unless you use it as a primary drive.

Just put it in raid.
