aidrees said: Celeron !!!!!!! Who would buy Celeron?? For a starter laptop (like I said in the post, a college student or someone needing a back-up), it's less than $300, which is why I thought it was a good deal. I agree there are better laptops in the $300 range, but I don't see many below the $300 mark.
I'm using this laptop right now. It has several things going for it. 1. Ivy Bridge architecture. It's still a Celeron, but it's pretty capable. 2. Very modular design with regards to upgrading. There are 2 ram slots on the laptop and the hard drive and processor are readily available by popping two screws on the bottom of the laptop.
The bad. The screen has pretty bad viewing angles. It's decent straight on, but from a few feet away at an angle it's poor. Thus my recommendation is that if you're typing or using it for most uses, go for it. It's less than perfect for watching movies or youtube from across a room though. As it comes stock, this laptop comes with one 4GB ram installed, meaning RAM is running in single channel mode. Windows 8 sucks on non-touchscreen laptops. -There's a ton of bloatware loaded up on this laptop when you first receive it.
I immediately added a 4GB stick or ram, so I have 8 GB running in DUAL channel mode (2x as fast) Wiped Windows 8 and installed Windows 7 x64 I left the existing hard drive installed and it's fine. I have an SSD I could have popped into this laptop, but it boots fairly quickly and is snappy enough as it is. Speakers are decent, keyboard is chicklet style and feels great. Also, this laptop has a full 10 key number pad on the right. Webcam is "ok" but not high-end. A little on the dark side, but works ok with decent lighting. Battery life is great for a laptop in this class. About 5+ hours.
Final thought, There was a coupon code available when I purchased this laptop that would give a free food processor with any order over 200.00. (google Office Depot coupon codes) So I got the laptop for 283.00 including tax. The food processor is probably worth about 20.00 in real life, but it does offset the cost of the laptop a bit.
Overall, I like this laptop. It runs extremely quietly, and now that I added the RAM and switched to Windows 7 it's a great laptop.
Tigerfish, to downgrade you will first want to go to www. Lenovo.com and download all the Windows 7 drivers for this laptop. from there.
1. restart computer. When the " Lenovo" screen pops up, press the function+F2 key to enter the bios. 2. inside the bios you will need to do two things. (a) switch to legacy mode. (b) move the dvd drive up in the boot order. click "save and exit" the laptop will restart. 3. install Windows 7 from DVD. you will need to either own or purchase a Windows 7 license to do this.....
