1600x900 is far better than 720p
That being said, I have seen the A8-4500m model of this drop below $400 several times in the past few months - best to wait. Still if you have to buy one now, this would be a decent deal.
An i5 and i7 will be even faster (especially newer ones)
Except in graphics, where the A6 clobbers the Intel HD 4000. If you want to play games, this is a better choice for a budget 17-inch laptop. You get a full fledged Radeon HD GPU that is on-die inside the CPU.
I have this laptop, bought it for $349 right before BF from Staples. It's okay. Only bought it for a dev project that required an AMD CPU though. It's actually my first 17-inch laptop ever.
And, for the most part, it is currently functioning as a doorstop. I really should get it on fleabay... sigh.
