SPIEGEL is a dishonest company

Spiegel.com used to be a reputable online company. I am appalled that they are still allowed to conduct a so-called legitimate business and con people out of their money with online and catalogue purchases.
Take the time to read all the negative reviews on this company because they are all true from disappointed and dissatisfied customers. The following is what I am having to deal with.
I placed an order on April 5th, 2012 for a leather jacket paid the unreasonable shipping charges. I never received an email confirmation or tracking number for my paid purchase.
I called SPIEGEL customer service on 3 different occasions to check on the status of this order and got 3 different answers. This company feels totally disorganized with a lack of competent management and that this company is totally trying to rip people off. What a hot mess.
1st call on 4/7/2012-Spoke to a lady rep. She said my order is still processing. No shit sherlock-I can read that online in my order status. She proceeds to tell me that it takes 5-7 business days for an order to be processed and shipped from their "warehouse" Also told me that there will not be a tracking number for packages under 1 pound. Say what? I paid 8.95 for shipping and I won't be provided with any way to see when I will get my package? Or if it has been shipped at all? That was a red flag for me. I started looking up other reviews and found a bunch of pretty recent complaints posted by other customers being charged and never getting their purchase or a requested refund.
Call #2-happened on 4/9/2012 to confirm the above info. I spoke to a "Towanda" she proceeds to tell me that my order was CANCELLED due to the product being out of stock. I asked her why wasn't I sent an email confirmation of any kind? Its been a week since I placed my order and would have never found out if I didnt call them back on Monday. Her reply was that their emailing system down and was being worked on because only certain customers were getting "these" cancellation emails about their orders. I asked her WHEN did the cancellation of my order come in?
4/8/2012 she said. You guys work on Sunday I thought to myself? Meanwhile I get 2 eblasts from Spiegel.com announcing their fabulous sales everyday.
Now I am concerned and remembering how I read that Spiegel will STILL charge the purchase amount to my credit card and I will NEVER see a refund.
I place another call (#3) right after I hung up and spoke to another lady "Shaniqua" who sounded very much like the 1st lady but gave a different name. She told me that my order was NOT CANCELLED and still in processing. WTF? Really? What the hell is going on? I told her I just spoke to someone who told me that my order was cancelled. She then says she just sent me an email saying that my order has not been cancelled and is still processing. I never got that email. These customer service liars always sound pleasant, apologetic and empathetic. Reassuring you that your paid item will arrive by end of the week so they can get you off the freaking phone. They don't care about your situation. They get paid to follow a script and lie to you 8 hours a day.
Now this whole thing sounds super SHADY. SPIEGEL is no longer a respectable company and conducts questionable business practices in my book.
I hung up feeling so confused and angry that this company is trying to and succeeding in cheating people out of their money and getting away with it. SPIEGEL train their unethical customer service people to lie and make up any type of excuses to prolong the transaction process so that the consumer will wait and hope they they will get their orders in the mail and then miss the 25-30 days that they have to even try to get a refund from their financial institution.
I know I am not getting my paid purchases from Spiegel and I have to now wait another week until I can file an investigation with my bank to stop payment or try to get a refund.
I bought a gift certificate through a discount site and placed an order. They revised the order amount after the order was shipped and over charged me $28+. I had to call into customer service frequently (and they hang up on you often), send the original order email (cos lucky for them, they can only see the new higher amount order) and waited 45 days before it even came close to resolution. I opened a dispute with my credit card as well, cos it looked like they were delaying the refund so that the dispute period with the credit card would expire. Do not buy from this site.
