TMobile Service, Plan, Phones & this Cashback

by saketg on July 19th, 2014
This Deal - I am not sure if this deal works for everyone. Cashback may work while buying new devices. I was trying to buy a new family plan and it did not work because before approving T-Mobile asks us to call a 800 number so that they can confirm my details before doing credit check. I know this had happened with others so Cashback might not work.

T-Mobile Service - TM offers some great plans and attractive features. I am using TM for last 4 months. I have used other 3 big carriers (AT&T, Verizon & Sprint) in past and feel that TM's coverage is worst inside many buildings. I have even tried using their WiFi calling feature and though it usually works okay for outgoing but incoming sucks as most people directly reach my Voicemail. Also, many times calls are dropped or fail to connect. Though I do get great signals outside and connection issues go away.

T-Mobile Phones - With little research one can find great deals on T-Mobile phones. Phone from most manufacturers are cheaper for TM compared to other three carriers. Just remember if you buy a phone locked for T-Mobile network you will have to stay with them for few months before they will unlock it for you.

T-Mobile Customer Service - This is a big puzzle. Some CSRs are helpful while others are not. They say/promise things that later on other reps deny. In this regard I think they are better than Sprint but worst than AT&T (Cannot comment about Verizon as I had it for just one year about 6 years back & I have no recollection of CS calls). Do not go by words of CSRs (specially Sales rep) as they are unreliable. For example, I bought a new Nokia Lumia phone in full price which was locked for T-Mobile's network. While activating the line, the rep asked me to get it unlocked before setting up the phone because as per him whenever we unlock it wipes the data in phone. I don't know about data wiping but they denied the request because we can only request unlocks after saying few months of service. Also, they entertain just 2 unlock requests per customer per year so I lost one request.

Other Observations - TMs onboarding procedures are very slow and fragmented. A new customer should be ready to make multiple calls.

Web site never worked for buying family plans. Waisted many hours on this.

by itv on February 21st, 2014
I tried to sign up for a family plan at least 10 times over a period of 3 months. With a very consistent result of failure. Spent hours to go through the steps of adding lines, phones, credit card info, identity info etc. only to see failure due to some error at the end. What a waist of time this is!

Generally good

by wresnick on September 11th, 2013
I'm rating T-Mobile as a store here, and rating shopping experience rather than rating them as a carrier. Buying phones on their website can be very straightforward, and they often have sales, especially near holidays such as Labor day weekend or "back to school", Christmas or other times when people are likely to get phones as gifts.

Shipping can be good, and often they will throw in two day shipping at no extra cost. On the other hand, sometimes shipping can be downright bad. For example, I just got a SIM. At times, they have offered them for free. These days (but it could change at any moment) they charge $10 and even force you to buy one when you get a phone, even though your current one might work fine. But the problem is that instead of putting it in an envelope so I can have it in a day or two, they send it by UPS as a package so it takes a full week.

When they send it as an activated SIM, that means being without a phone (or at least that particular number) for about a week. So if you are planning to port your number, don't do it. Wait until the phone comes with a "throw away" number and then port it once you have the phone in hand.

T-mobile...

by xsen on March 19th, 2013
Okay, I loved the commercials of T-mobile, figured things would go well. I was wrong. The customer service was wonderful help but I didn't have a signal in any building I went into. The only signal I got was outside and I was lucky to have two bars. =/ I loved their phones, and appreciated their help. But I wouldn't recommend T-mobile to anyone if you don't live in a big city like Dallas or Houston.
