T-Mobile Galaxy Light

The price on this dropped from $200+ on the Tmobile site. This phone has sold for $99-170 at various web retailers (Newegg, Amazon, HSN, QVC) over the last 6 months.

My family has been using 3 of these phones for the last 6 months, and it is a perfectly serviceable smartphone. It's obviously got some deficiencies, but it's better than any other $100 phone currently on the market, IMO. At the very least, it's a decent backup phone to have lying around in case something happens to your primary. It's gotten very decent reviews.

This phone is being replaced with the newer Galaxy Avant which has a slightly bigger screen and newer OS (KitKat). No idea how much inventory T-Mobile has, so this deal might last a day or a month. It might even get cheaper, but it's obviously impossible to predict.

I wish this price was available a week ago when my daughter dropped hers in the toilet. We purchased a replacement for $120. I knew the Avant was coming, but wasn't sure when, so we couldn't afford to wait.

This is also a good deal for a family that might be upgrading from feature phones, as T-Mobile's service for voice/text/data is about the same as what I was paying verizon for just voice and text.

Galaxy Light is still on the Samsung update list for KitKat, FYI. Should still be coming.

Looks like a great deal. Thanks op. Anyone have any experience/feedback putting kitkat on this phone?

Not available yet, and no ETA has been announced. There was a minor update deployed last month which enabled VoLTE (Voice over LTE).

This is the cheapest I've seen by $10.00, and the last time I saw it for $110 was over a month ago. Nice find.

Guess you missed this thread, where the phone was selling IN-STORE @ many (most?) WalMart B&M locations for $49.88 (through Aug 2nd 2014).  Granted, it sold under the "Univision" label, but it's a genuine T-Mobile phone.

For about the same price, you should be able to pick up a Metro PCS LG L70 or LG F6 at best buy and spend $2 on the unlock code
(Assuming you are in a Metro PCS coverage area)
Slightly larger screen and the same limited 1gb app memory

Both of those are 1.2GHz dual-cores. The Galaxy Light has a 1.4 quad-core.
LG's only have 4GB storage vs the 8GB on the GL.

The LG L90 is also on sale at TMO for $100. That would be as good a deal (maybe better due to a larger screen) than the Galaxy Light. However, it appears to not support LTE. L90 also comes with KitKat according to GSMArena.com

I didn't but it wasn't as easy or cheap ($2) to unlock as the L70. Flipping it on CL for $100, no bites. The LGs unlocked are flippin for $100 like hotcakes.

Bought this phone for 99 when HSN had it several months ago. Great phone especially for the price. TMOBILE is very poor reception in Virginia unless you're stationary and in a metro area. However, HSN in particular, not so good. The original Samsung car charger did not work and they have sent four nonworking, cheap, made in china replacements which dont work in my other Samsung phone either.

Bought one of these for my son last winter. He loved it until it was stolen. The only issue with it is screen size, if this were a 4.5" screen it would be easily be one of the better bargains on the market today. The quad core CPU is nice, the 8GB instead of 4GB that just about every other phone in this price range has is a huge benefit. The only other phone I can think of that is selling in this price range that is truly a better value is the CDMA Moto G phones on Verizon prepaid and Boost Mobile, and those phones are 3G only.

For those who would use it on T-Mobile this model includes the WiFi Calling feature, which for my family makes the difference between us not having reliable coverage from any carrier at home to having excellent service at home.

You might want to try changing cables. I had a problem with one of my wall chargers. I eventually narrowed it down to a bad/incompatible cable.

Almost any micro-USB cable should work, but some of them might be intended for data only and never trigger the fast-charge mode that Samsungs use for 1 amp charging.

I agree that TMO is not for everyone. I live in Southern California, and TMO's reception is right up there with VZW and ATT. Outside of the major cities, it's a crap shoot. It should get better, but that may take some time., and TMO will probably never have the same rural coverage as VZW and ATT

I was at best buy the other day and bought a Alcatel fierce 4G touch screen for 129.00 I think it is as good as my old galaxy 3 and I was also able to get 1 year 100% protection for $20 more. I hope this helps someone.

I've both L9 and L90 and the L90 is better than L9.
Depend what u want. Samsung have 4g LTE but smaller screen. L90 only have 4g but bigger screen.

Quite a few bad reviews on this phone for being slow, freezing, and turning itself off and on.

Is there an easy way on the T-Mobile site to show all phones by full retail price? everytime i look it shows $0 down because of their monthly implementation.

All i do now is click on every phone individually to see the retail cost.

I have this phone and it is the worst unit  for calling that I have ever owned.  It is slow, freezes up, gets confused when attached to wi-fi. Voice quality is awful with a background echo that comes and goes.   The signal reception is terrible for making and receiving calls.  My $10 disposable flip phone is a better unit for calling.  I have since replaced this unit.  Good luck.
