EOS Lip Balm vs Burt’s Bees: Which is the Better Value?

I’m a lip balm addict. I recently dumped my purse on my desk here at work, trying to find a receipt, only to discover I was carrying around a baker’s dozen of lip balm products. The discovery resulted in some teasing and then friendly FatWallet lip balm banter about which is the best.

The debate came down to Burt’s Bees Lip Balm and EOS Lip Balm (Evolution of Smooth), equally split among the group. They both feel great going on; silky and smooth, not sticky, dry, or gooey like some other lip balm or lip gloss brands. They also both moisturize and protect my lips from these frigid Wisconsin winters. EOS tastes better, but I love the peppermint tingle from Burt’s Bees. EOS Lip Balm is labeled as 95% organic, 100% natural, and paraben and petrolatum free. Burt’s Bees Lip Balm is 100% natural as well and both companies are cruelty free brands. It’s too tough to choose between the two based on how well they work. So the deciding factor could only be the cost per ounce.

Walmart carries both brands, and after a quick comparison, Walmart also seems to be the lowest price on both at the time of our research. The prices below do not include any additional savings like manufacturer coupons or cash back.

The Lip Balm Bottom Line: Which one is the better value?

Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm

EOS Lip Balm Sphere

  • $2.97 each .15 oz
= $19.80/oz
= $18.23/oz
= $16.61/oz
= $11.84/oz
= $12.34/oz

*Note: The EOS Lip Balm Kit contains 3 spheres .25 oz each & 1 stick .14 oz. (The individual EOS Lip Balm Spheres are a better value than the kit!)

So there you have it! EOS Lip Balm is the better value. (Although with my lip gloss/lip balm hoarding tendencies, you’ll continue to find both in my purse.)
