The Summer Solstice gets a serenade with literally thousands of live music events across America encompassing every style, genre and talent level imaginable. National Music Day will bring a day long free-for-all of performances in streets, churches, parks and businesses marking the first ever nationwide music festival (globally in over 514+ cities and 110 countries). It’s all FREE and anyone can participate whether performing, promoting or attending (see below)! In partnership with Make Music, NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants), Folk Alliance, League of American Orchestras and The Quincy Jones Music Consortium, National Music Day features orchestras, concerts, jams, drum circles, group sing-alongs and even lesson.
I’ll be in Madison, WI tomorrow where Make Music Madison is hosting more than 100 venues and 270 performances, including mass gathering hoedowns throughout the city. As now part of National Music Day, this year there will be Make Music festivities in 19 North American cities. Madison will have more shows than Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Miami, Denver, and ten other cities. While I could not find one central complete list of all the events happening throughout the country, there are at minimum 25 city-wide celebrations and dozens of smaller ones scattered throughout the US. For a more comprehensive listings and links of events, apps, maps and performance schedules visit NationalMusicDay.org, or try these resources below offering full details to their main events:
