Gift Ideas for Kids: Lego, Barbies & More

November 6, 2013 | Posted By: Heather Stephens | Categorized in: Gift Ideas

Whether it's the holidays, a birthday or a present that says, "Hey! Great job on the report card!!!", kids love getting gifts!  But with so many toys on the market for so many age groups, it's not always easy to know what to buy.

As a mom of 3 with kids ranging in age from 5-15, I feel like I've been there and done that with just about every age group. So I'm rounding up some of my kids' favorite gift ideas over the years, for every age from babies to teenagers.

(Now, how about one of you awesome parents shares with me how to get them to pick up all these toys without me harping at them?)

Happy gift giving!

:) Heather

Gift Ideas for Babies! Babies! Babies!

I love buying things for babies. Their presents are affordable and they love everything. (Mom and Dad do too!) Anything that keeps babies happy, helps them learn, or lets mom and dad get a good night of sleep will definitely be a hit!

Mom and Dad may have already had a baby shower, but if not, giving them the basics will always be appreciated. If they have the basics covered, go for some of the items their baby can grow into.

Hot Gifts for Elementary School Age Kids:

Life's a game and an adventure for kids of this age!  They're using big muscles to burn off energy and fine muscles to create. They're learning skills, enjoying hobbies (even if their favorite one changes by the week) and they socialize with their friends at school in the neighborhood as much as mom and dad will let them.

Clothing is always a great option for kids of any age, but this age especially!  They're tough on clothes and will often wear them out before they outgrow them. Jeans & hoodies are loved by most kids this age, and if they're like mine they may go through hats and gloves like they're disposable. In this age range kids get a kick out of gift cards too, since they're probably getting an allowance and learning the value of money.

Gifts for Teenagers

Although they're getting big and can have a bit of the "I'm too cool for this," attitude, teens want fun, cool gifts as much as any kid.  They like to geek out on gadgets that make life easier and will impress their friends. They want to look great, but not like they're trying too hard.

And they always love money or gift cards to their favorite stores so they can pick out what they want. Trust me on this, if they don't like it, they're not going to wear it, so letting them pick it out can simplify everyone's life!
