Grocery Coupons: Following Your Supermarket Sale Cycle

So how much is enough to have on hand of certain products? Well, the “rule of thumb” is enough to last you three months (of course and exception would be a really really good deal on something you use all the time.) This means that every 12 weeks, products hit their highest price point and their lowest. This is true at supermarket stores such as Kroger, Schnucks, Jewel, etc. Each product and each store is on its own 12 week cycle, so you must watch the sales each week. The key is to stock up on products when they hit that low point and start building your stockpile.

For example, one week you go to your supermarket, and you see that a jar of Ragu is $2. So you buy a jar because you’re making spaghetti this week. Then next week you go to the store and it’s on sale for $1.50. The next week it’s 99 cents. Just think if you’d waited to buy that jar this week! You’d have saved $1. If you use that $1/2 coupon that was in the paper a few weeks ago, you could have gotten 2 jars for just $1 instead of $4!

Following sales each week, and saving your coupons for when products are at their lowest price point, can save you even more money at supermarkets than you would at Super center stores like Walmart which tend to have “every day low prices.”

Bargain Buys

So my friend Sam texted me this morning and said she found 4 bottles of Soft Soap body wash at Walgreens all for $1.10! Sam stacked Walgreens coupons with Smart Source coupons from 9/25 to get this great deal! You can also get “free” Schick razors by using coupons from 9/25 Smart Source.

I got some good deals at Target this morning too. Lunchables are on sale for $1, and I had 55 cent off coupons that I got from a local convenience store. Even without coupons, I usually buy a few Lunchables when they’re a buck. Target also had Cascade on sale 2/$7, which I thought was decent. If you got a Target booklet a few weeks ago, there were store coupons in there that you can stack with a 8/28 P & G one. Also, if you have more than 1 Cascade from P & G, use them to snag some free travel size Cascade. These Cascade coupons expire Friday. If you need body wash, you can get free Nivea when you stack a Target coupon with one from the 7/31 Red Plum. Walgreens and Target deals are good through October 1st.
