Guest Blogging Guidelines

Interested in submitting content to our blog? Here are some of our guidelines to save everyone time (and hopefully awkward emails of rejection).

What type of guest posts are we looking for?

Value, value, value! If you’ve been a regular reader and a member of FatWallet.com, then you know that we will only share the best of the best with our readers.

Your content needs to be targeted toward our readers: Men and women (in the US mostly) who are interested in finance, shopping, debt, credit, and budgeting. Basically anything that can help educate consumers or save them time or money fits the general direction of our blog and our audience.

Your content needs to ROCK. Seriously. No Fluff. No Spam. No Crap. Nothing that has been re-purposed, or will be re-purposed and reused on other sites. We research this stuff. Try to sneak one past us and you will be publicly flogged.

The types of posts we love:

  • How-to posts
  • New discoveries or case studies
  • Posts that over-deliver value and are:
    • Helpful
    • Humorous
    • Interesting
    • Actionable

Your content needs to be:
  • Transparent - If you're mentioning a service or product that you're associated with, make it clear.
  • Balanced - No lopsided propaganda. Especially if you're associated with something being mentioned ;)
  • Well written - We will not accept poorly written posts or posts with bad grammar or non (PG) language.
  • Fresh - We will not accept posts that cover a topic we feel is over-talked about or over-done, or is too general

Linking Policy

We realize many guest authors are trying to obtain links to their sites, or their clients' sites, as well as building awareness and brand. For the most part, we're cool with that as long as the above guidelines are followed (especially transparency, balance, and quality).

However, there are exceptions:
  • We will not link to you if you've been doing any shady link building. Forum spam, blog comment spam, content theft, article repurposing, etc.
  • We will not allow anchor text that competes with our own search efforts.

How to submit your guest post:

You may submit your content, or content ideas to us via email. blog AT fatwallet.com (trying to prevent the spam that comes along with posting an email address).

Your article must include:
  • "Guest Blog Submission" in the subject box of your email
  • An eye catching headline
  • A one paragraph summary of your post.
  • A brief author bio which may include a link to your website (photo optional).
  • The name that the article should be published under if you're using a pseudonym.

Article submissions that do not include all of these components will be rejected.

Thank you for your interest in guest blogging. Your awesome content is certainly welcome here. We will do our absolute best to promote your content on our Facebook and Twitter networks and help you build your personal brand.
