You are here: FatWallet Blog > View Blog Entry Price Scrimmage Between the Supermarket and the Supercenter About a month ago, Super Walmart opened up in our town, and while it’s now convenient to have this super center in our town, I’m still finding better deals at some local super markets.Supermarkets vs. SupercentersI decided to conduct a bit of an experiment this week and compared Super Walmart prices with the supermarket Logli/Schnucks where I’ve been doing a lot of my shopping since I started coupon shopping. Here is what I bought at Logli last Thursday evening. This grocery store doubles coupons up to 55 cents. I also did some of my weekend shopping here, so you’ll notice some items I did not have coupons for.
My total at Logli came to $43.56 after tax and after $6 back in Catalinas to use this week!!! This store also has a loyalty card program which gives me discounts on fuel at Mobile stations, so even though a few things might have been more expensive, I was able to earn points on my card. Monday morning, I made a trip to Super Walmart and this is what I found:
My total at Super Walmart would have been $56.83 plus tax and after coupons. Here's the comparison of the stores side-by-side:![]() As you can see some things were cheaper at Logli and with my coupons they were even a bigger discount (soup and Totinos pizza rolls). Some things were also more expensive, but after my coupons were doubled, they were actually cheaper or the same price as items at Walmart (Sargento products). So I had about a $13 dollar savings by shopping at a supermarket, which doesn’t seem like a lot, but when you add it up over a year, it makes a huge difference on my grocery bill. Bargain BuysTarget has some good $5 gift card offers going on this week. They also have 79 cent Tazo Tea (9-11 SS) 33 cent travel size Tide (10-2 P & G), 62 cent Gerber Graduates (after printable from coupons.com). Also select Suave products are as low as 92 cents (10-2 RP). Check out Walgreens for moneymaker Halls lozenges (9-18 SS), free Arrid deodorant, possible free Covergirl products (10-2 P &G), and $1.50 Listerine Smart Rinse (10-9 RP).FatWallet tip: This post is part of an ongoing series of posts for the couponers and those who wanna be couponers! Soon the grocery stores will close and you won't have a choice. Just wait. Here we have Winn-dixie, Publix and Walmart. ALL High and none offer double coupons.

Very interesting article. Good to know. Yes, gives me yet another reason not to go to Walmart, I hate Walmart! Now another interesting comparison would be Logli vs. Aldi's. I am new to this whole grocery shopping thing, so I have no idea what's a deal and what's not. Wish me luck! :)

I certainly hope to continue to have options in grocery shopping, but I guess time will tell. I hope to do a comparison between Logli and Aldi sometime soon as well. I do know that some things are less expensive at Aldi, but I also know that by watching the sales and using my coupons at Logli or even Super Walmart, I'm able to get name brand items cheaper sometimes.
