Your May Grocery List: Stock Up On These Items for Summer

April showers may bring May flowers, but May also brings warmer weather, T-ball season, graduation, and back yard barbecues. For us coupon shoppers, it’s also the season to save on our favorite items to have on hand when we’re hosting or attending one of these events.

In conjunction with Cinco De Mayo, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day, stores will start running sales on items to stock our pantry full for the next few months.

Here are just a few items I’ve got on my list this May:

  • Condiment items like ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, BBQ sauce, relish/pickles, & steak sauce

  • Baked beans
  • Taco seasoning, taco sauce, enchilada sauce, green chiles, and refried beans

Stock Up on Sunscreen this May, Too

May is also the time to start stocking up on sunscreen for the summer. I’ve read mixed things about how long sunscreen should last. I’ve read one place that you can use the same bottle for up to three years, but other sites say not to use it past the summer you buy it. Sunscreen is something I buy at the start of each season. We are outside playing and swimming so much that we can easily go through 3-4 bottles of sunscreen in a summer.

Coupons to watch for this May

This week’s newspaper included a “Moments to Save” insert with coupons for drinks and chips. I would hope that in coming weeks we might see coupons for more barbecue and picnic items. Even without coupons, you should still be able to save some money and get stocked up. Coupons and sales for sunscreen have also started to appear.

This May, get outdoors and enjoy the great weather, fire up the grill, and of course stock up on your favorite items to get ready for summer!
