If you buy a Moto X through Motomaker, you can enter promo code "MBXISMOT" to get a discount of $100 off the $16GB model, making the price $299, or $125 off the 32 or 64 GB models, so $324 or $374 respectively. The code expires on July 23. If you want a wood back, that will add $25 to the price of the phone. The discount does not seem to apply for subsidized phones.

The code does work on the Republic Wireless model, though since the Republic Wireless model is already discounted by $50, the coupon code only gives another $50 off, making the price the same as the others at $299.

Actually, I'd say it is Motorola being misleading. The non-discounted price for the Moto X is $399; though they offer the Republic Wireless version of the phone with a permanent $50 discount. While building the Moto X, however, they show the Republic Wireless price until you go to check out and select the carrier version you want. In any case, I've updated the OP with the price for the phone after the $100 discount; I hope that makes things clearer for people.
I have the 32g Moto X from their recent upgrade/memory campaign on Republicordered directly from MotoMaker, and I would compare it to having the full functionality of my HighSense Android Tablet with the ability to make calls.
No complaints if that's what you are looking for in a phone. The only thing that needs tweaking in the voicemail notification feature. It seems to leave me notice that I received a voicemail when there is a missed call regardless of an actual new voicemail left by the missed caller.

That's an issue with your carrier / config-- not the phone.
Yes, the unlocked version will work on AT&T or T-Mobile -- you can get it either with a T-Mobile or Net10 SIM card. The phone is the same (model XT1053), with no carrier bloatware, regardless of which you choose. This would be a great phone for using on Cricket.
