Front-loader is the way to go.

I have one of these and it works relative well... however be prepared to either buy your own wood (hickory, apple, etc) and make chips or spend a small fortune buying wood chips at Lowes. My other complaint is that The wood chip tray is not large enough so that I can fill it up and leave it for the duration.

note this is the older model with the harder to replace heating element. Note also that at some smoker site forums...it was considered NOT RECOMMENED due to high failure rates of the heating element. Still..its from Target..so you got a good 90 days to work it out.

Masterbuilt warrants its products to be free from defects in material and workmanship under proper assembly, normal use and recommended care for 90 days from the date of original retail purchase. The Masterbuilt warranty does not cover paint finish as it may burn off during normal use. The Masterbuilt warranty does not cover rust of the unit.

wow..a whole 90 days....

I've had mine for about 18 months with no mechanical problems other then the temp gauge is not close to accurate, i bought a wireless gauge. i do find it hard to get the wood chips smoking in the summer here in AZ. The heating element needs to be on fairly often to get good smoke and thats tough when its 115* outside and the smoker is set at 230*.
most meat wont take smoke after 3 hours, so i dont think the chip tray is to small.

From what I read...turn the heat up full blast to get the chips smoking..then turn down. Or better yet...fry the chips up outside the smoker ..and put them in while they are still have some burning parts. Sort of like how surviorman takes a fire from one place to another with some smoothing wood chips.
