OP, you might want to add "For Mac" to the title, or people will say "It's less at Amaz0n!", when it's not exactly the same model.

I was going to post that it's STILL less at Amazon; I found the same series, model number incremented slightly, and capacity incremented to 4TB, for $236 on Amazon still labeled "for Mac".

I was further going to ask why you would pay 2.5x as much just for it to be labeled "for Mac" when Macs ought to work fine with the $95 3TB Seagate that you linked.

Then I realized that OP's one includes a $150 Thunderbolt adapter. Title and description should read "Thunderbolt adapter and 3TB drive".

Edit a couple hours later: Title has been updated.

Designed for Mac but not really "Mac only". The basic reason the price is higher than most 3TB external drives is the Thuderbolt connector. Which should also be noted will not make much of a difference in speed on a spinning mechanical hard drive.

It's the same price at Amazon, for those of you that don't pay tax. I personally like the Amazon service.

I also agree that that you won't see a $100 dlls difference in performance from the USB 3.0 interface with a normal spinning hard disk.

Maybe true but some of us have fully decked out MacBook Pros that came out just before they added USB 3 and all we have is USB 2, FW and Thunderbolt.  Unfortunately it's still too expensive for me to justify!  Someday though.  TB is really fast.

Never quite understood the rather large premium you pay to these companies for drives with anything but USB. Add eSata, FireWire, or Thunderbolt and the $140 drive become $240. Usually cheaper to find an enclosure and a drive if you want something other than standard USB.
