That's a deal.  Although I heard somewhere (but can't confirm its verity) that the hard drives inside external enclosures don't have the same quality control as internal drives.  Anybody else heard of this, or have any real info on this assertion?

I would love to know what drive is actually inside.  If it's the same ST4000DM000 4TB drive as this one, then this is a better deal.

Hmmm....just looked-up the drive specs & only one year warranty....will probably stick to other deal since it has 2 year warranty and only $15 more.

Thanks to OP anyway.

I believe the Fantom brand of external drives was sometimes shipped with refurbished SATA drives inside.

Apparently Seagate was still shipping its troublesome 7200.11 internals (flawed firmware) in its external drives, after it stopped shipping them separately and the successor 7200.12 had long been available.

I have two 1TB WD Greens with the same model number (I don't remember if their suffixes are identical), but the one bought as an external has a 32MB cache, while the one that came inside a WD Elements USB 2.0 drive has only a 16MB cache.  I wondered if the internal drives of Samsung externals also had smaller buffers because this Amazon description indicates they do:  Samsung D3 Desktop 3TB USB 3.0 8MB Cache 8Gbps External Hard Drive (STSHX-D301TDB)  (contains Seagate ST3000DM001, normally has 64MB cache)
