I've gone in the past few years, but I've been less impressed each year (thanks to FW).
Now that the regular Wal-Mart that just the local town went to has closed and turned into a regional supercenter with 24x7 long lines it's that much less appealing, and even more trashy people will be in attendance. I could try to go to score the media chairs they had last year, but when you can't get peanut butter and frozen pizza after 3 PM because it's already sold out (everyday) my chances are a lot lower.
I was hoping to get a deal on a TV, but when it literally turns into a competition that could end violently, I think it might be worth the few extra bucks to have it delivered to my house. Not even WM, but all stores.
I'm seriously considering sleeping in late and spending the day getting smashed instead of watching the spectacle that is BF. I feel bad for the people in line who are doing it because it's the only way they'll be able to give their kids a Christmas and angry at the people who are defaulting on their mortgage and buying a new LCD for the den. I'd rather be drunk while they fight each other over the last Miley Cyrus Easy Bake Karaoke Machine™.
Is there a humbug I need to get rid of or does anybody else feel the same way?

I'm spending the day at work too. I think BF has turned into a "pseudo" deal day. Used to be really good deals, but now if you don't get in on a doorbuster (ie. limit 4 per store) then there are better deals to be had online, or later in the shopping season. Just my opinion, but that's what I've found.
Because I have had back surgery and am in chronic pain, I cannot stand for more than a few minutes at a time. Therefore, I do my best to find deals online, or in some other way that allows me to stay 'far from the madding crowd' In a way (it's crazy, I know) I've missed the adventure of going out in the wee hours along with other hardy souls in search of that elusive deal!
BF has become a marketing gimmick for the less informed. With the help of sites like FW, PATIENT, educated buyers can do just as well throughout the year.
I am going to skip the lines this year... could use a laptop... and will probably buy it online... Everything else... wait till I find incredibly good deals around the year! Thanks FW!
I stopped going about 2 years ago. I stay up and see if anything good pops up online, but it's not worth it to me anymore.
8 or so years ago when I first started going to Black Friday, you could roll up to a store an hour or two before opening and there were maybe 30 people there, and you could pretty much be guaranteed a big pile of FAR and cheap stuff. I could hit multiple stores and still find stuff. Nowdays, you get there 11pm the night before and you are already too late. The deals are not nearly as good, and a bunch of the stores I used to go to (Circuit City, CompUSA, OfficeMax) aren't around anymore.
The past two years, I've been out of town visiting my dad. He lives in a college town in TX in the middle of nowhere. They have most of the major stores, but none of the (killer) crowds. There are still lines, but nobody is going to get crushed. I've been able to wake up at 5am, hit up 5 or 6 stores, and be done by 10am while being able to get every single bullet point on my list. It's the same story when I visit my mom, though maybe not to the same degree.
I actually enjoy Black Friday, though. It's a spectacle to behold. Capitalism at its finest. I'll probably be doing it again this year.
I've been pretty good about getting gifts online in advance, and I usually use Black Friday to fill in the gaps. While most people are starting their holiday shopping, I'm usually finishing.
I'm definitely not. Sometimes I enjoy the rush of the day, but this year all the pre-sales have helped me complete my xmas shopping-on-a-budget way ahead of Black Friday! Kohls, JCPennys, Sears and Macys especially. Wal Mart, however as done a terrible job with living up to their discount reputation.
I am, but not until late morning. I don't care about the door busters that end at 9:00am. I'm not willing to get up early enough to catch them anyway. I do it all more for the fact that my wife enjoys it. We travel for Thanksgiving, so there's stores we can't go to at home.
some make BF an opportunity to get rid of the bad stuff no real good deals to find but there are still good deals to find mostly by those stores that have some good deals all year round
