... because the ads will not be leaking out before Black Friday
A little background. I don't post much on this forum, but I have managed to get all the Frys BF ads in advance since 2005. This year Fry's is going a different route than in previous years, instead have a 1-page, 1-day sale on Friday followed up by a 8-page 1-day sale on Saturday. Essentially, a 2 day BF sale.
Fry's reads this forum. They also read SlickDeals, GottaDeal, and all those other forums. They follow their competitor's ad leaks very closely, and undercut them.
But they don't like their surprises getting ruined. They are apparently miffed that someone last year leaked the San Diego Fry's ad almost a full day in advance. Fry's is not a publicly traded company and is very secretive in their store operations.
So now the stores will not be getting the ads in advance. No one will be told what's in the ad at all this year, and certainly not at what price. Fry's employees will be picking up copies of the newspaper to find out, just like everyone else. We'll be told whats on ad after the store's closed, but no ad scans will be available. If I do find out more info I'll post it here and on my friend's site at http://www.frysblackfriday.com
So, your best plan of action is to hit up your local newspaper's website sometime after midnight, and start hitting refresh.
One silver lining though is from what I did hear from what little information I did hear on the ad, is that it's going to be good. That 1tb everyone else has in ad? We'll beat them, maybe drop ourselves $20 below them or so. Oh that rumored $299 laptop at Best Buy? Hmm, lets undercut them by $50 or. I don't have specifics (yet), but it is shaping up to be a very nice Friday, and just as good Saturday.
Fry's Pros: has always been the best for BF deals Fry's Cons: far away from many people, ending up with frys.com the only choice in-store pickup sucks last year on BF, basically have zero chance to hold hot deals by clicking online even it shows up as in-stock at the time you order, not sure whether it's improved now --- but I would guess fry's doesn't like you to sit at home just click the mouse, they want you to show up at their stores

The chief "Frys.com" site is acutally located in Wilmington, OH (the original Outpost.com), so I would say that all Frys.com times are "EST" but don't quote me on that one!

what time do you have to get to frys? Probably like 8pm thanksgiving day right? Also do they hand out tickets? or is it a mad rush?

I'm not sure that their website is in Ohio, I think it is just their distribution center. And I thought Outpost used to be in Connecticut. Their customer service people are clearly in California.
That said, their website is on eastern time.

That said, their website is on eastern time. I'm almost certain that this is correct. Wilmington is the distribution center for Frys.com/Outpost.com. Kent was where Outpost was originally located; Fry's appears to lease/own the offices now, but I doubt they operate out of those offices. (If they did, I imagine they may have to charge CT sales tax.) Correspondence (both online and over the phone) is handled in San Jose, CA.
Interestingly, I think they may be moving their distribution center in the near future since it's apparently run by DHL, and they are closing up shop. I hope they don't relocate to California since it will take much longer to get my shipments!
Fry's generally does 2 page ads on Thursday then an 8 page on Friday, BUT this year will only be 1 additional page on Friday and then an 8 page on Saturday.
The "Major Name Brand" TV is a Samsung The Sony TV prices are before savings, so the prices are $749 for the 40" and $999 for the 46" Quantities on the Laptop and 21" LCD should be pretty good for each store. Really good deals on all the printers as well.

Does anyone know what model that samsung is? It looks like a samsung LN32A450, which would be a killer deal, since that is half off.

I've been unsuccessfully trying to order an item on Fry's website since 5:30AM EST. At first I got to the checkout before getting "Page Not Found'. Now I can't even get to the homepage without the same result. Has anybody else had any luck on Fry's site today? The item I'm trying to order is a one day special.
With the line about half a mile long, I am discouraged to go there.
Why is it so difficult to get Black Friday advertisements? They should at least release the ads on Wednesday. I would even suggest sunday ahead of time.

You got your printers mixed up. The $20 Brother Laser is a monochrome I believe it's probably model hl-2140. It's _definitely_ worth $20 however. (I got a lesser model a year or so ago.. the 2040... and it is still chugging along fine, and I got 1600 pages out of the starter toner cartridge that came with it.) $20 is the cheapest I have seen this printer at this year or in a while. Definitely worth getting if you can and are in need of a printer to print b&w pages.
The multifunction printer is a Canon, and the color laser printer is a $98 samsung.

And Fry's never releases Black Friday ads before they have to. If information ends up online, it's because someone leaked it... and they've taken some pretty drastic measures this year to make sure that isn't the case.

Fry's open at 5 a.m. What time should I go to the store to get the best deal?

It just seems like bad business practice to make it difficult for your shoppers to know what your sales are.
I guess it doesn't matter since the line at frys will be half a mile long regardless if they put out any flyers or not.

Anyone with a clue on how Fry's system works can figure out what the TVs on sale are pretty quickly. Besides, some markets actually have the TVs clearly marked as Samsung/Panasonic/LG. (That'd be the 32", 42" Plasma, and 52" 120Hz, respectively.)
Does anyone else see this as just stupid? The point of ads is to get people in the store... but the best deals are all gone soon after opening... but not releasing the ads ahead of time means people can't be sure getting up 4am to wait in line would be worthwhile and so wait for morning paper... but if they wait for the morning paper any best deals will already be gone so no point in going at all... etc. etc.

If you take the SKU from the ad and look for it on Outpost (or just Google "5562150 Outpost") you'll see that it's the LN32A330. If you have your heart set on the 450, I think your best bet is to grab one from eBay with 25% off (if you haven't used up all your credits there). I got one for $470 shipped, no sales tax...I knew someone would probably have a decent 32 inch for $400 on BF this year, but once you add sales tax, that still (around here) gets you up to $435. Happy to pay the extra $35 to avoid the lines and get exactly the model I wanted...

On the flip side, maybe not releasing the ad till the last minute creates intrigue and stops shoppers from deciding days before they won't be getting out because of poor deals. This way may cause more impulse buys.
The logical reason is most likely that they're trying to undercut competitors while stopping competitors from undercutting them.

I agree. And those with fry's near them like me (5 fry's stores within 10 miles of me) know fry's is ALWAYS the best place to be to get the best deals on BF. There will be people in line 12 hours prior regardless of the ad being released or not. It's a given that Fry's will beat everyone else.

I sort of get why they would do that for Friday's ad because of so much competition with all other stores, but I think they should AT LEAST allow the saturday 8-page ad to make it online! There's honestly no reason to restrict that ad from the internet--there's no competition with other companies on "black saturday" and if Fry's is trying to get me to get up and wait in line for hours again on saturday, they need some spanking good deals to do it.
absolutely nothing to buy... the 32" sammy TV may have been the only one worth buying, but of course that's gone in 60 seconds

That was a total bait & switch. Manhattan Beach had only 25 of these yet they kept hundreds of people in line and refused to give anyone any communication of how many would get it until after they store opened and everyone then ended up in yet another line for another 1+ hours to get to the front and be told they don't have any and instead be offered the later model 52LG70 for $1550 instead. Complete bait and switch.
Completely satisfied with Frys in store purchase this morning (line was too long last evening, just walked in this morning at 7 AM). They had tons of the FAR stuff (Samung BT, 2 gig SD cards, GeForce, CD cases, USB readers and dozens of FAR software) in stock. The employees were super-helpful. The checkout was so well organized. They had 50+ counters!
tom55522 said: I bought the 99 dollar 22 inch lcd monitor online, can anyone tell me how it is...I'm on the east cost and we have no frys here.
I would not bet on it. The box was very plain with the brand name "Vision". I saw a lot of people get it, but after buying a horrible 22" V7 monitor from Staples a few days ago, I'm going to stick with the major brand names. These kind of brands are a hit or miss.
Unfortunately, it is common for them to cancel online orders for in-store specials. In fact, they also cancel regular online (no-instore special) orders as well. Of the several orders I placed online, none have ever shipped. The cancellation happens at all stores as well, but Fry's seems to be the worst. Maybe they just have a crappy online inventory system.
