I have a new laptop and a copy of Kaspersky 6.0. With 7.0 now available, and even 8.0 in Beta, am I ok usinf the older version until find a deal for the new one? Or will that be a risk and should use Norton or McAfee which I have newer versions of? I like the reviews for Kasparsky and the other two seem to slow everything down so much. Comments please? And thanks!

Use it until it expires, the virus definitions are all the same,the older version will work just fine for detection.
In my opinion i would never use the other two.
I agree with staying away from Norton and McAfee.
You do need to be careful with older versions of AV programs though. Many people think, as pyroboy seems to, that as long as you have a current definition file you are safe. This just isn't true. The engine used by the AV program is important too, and the older they get the more vulnerable they are because the bad guys have had time to rip them apart.
One year old should be fine, but beyond that... I wouldn't do it.
I've seen way too many machines with 2 and 3 year old AV programs (with current subscriptions and updates) infected with viruses because the programs simply weren't written to catch things the way they are now written.
Kasperky gives version 6 users free upgrades to version 7. I am using KIS 7.0 with a version 6.0 key since Aug 2007. Most recently I upgraded the PC and reinstalled everything. The version 6 key still works, and the expiration date is still august 2008.
