HP AIO Printer - Changing default TWAIN scan settings?

With my Epson and Visioneer scanners, the last settings I used are saved for the next time I invoke a TWAIN scan. With my HP scanners (All-in-one printers), the TWAIN scan settings reset every time I use it. Is there a workaround to set my own default TWAIN settings?

I would like to set the default settings as 8-bit grayscale 150dpi instead of 24-bit color photo 200dpi.

Most HP scanners have their own software which allows you to save settings - are you trying to use a 3rd party program for scanning? If not, the HP settings should be in the HP Director (I think that's what it's called - the main program where you can get to the scanner / fax / printer settings) under Options I think. You can save default options in there and they should stick.

Yes, I'm using a 3rd party program that accesses the scanner through the TWAIN interface. If I use HP's own program, the setings will stick. But I'm looking for a way to retain the TWAIN scan settings like I can with Epson and Visionner scanners.
