Computer video card, 128mb vs. 256mb Archived From: Computers

I am building a Dell computer to replace my current laptop. I see that when configuring them I can save about $100 by using either integrated graphics, a 128mb card or a 256 mb card from a couple of manufactures. I have read that the integrated graphics makes Vista lag, and I am willing to spend a few bucks for a upgraded card, but should I go for the 256 or the 128 cards. This is what I put together so far

PROCESSOR Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB) edit
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium edit
MONITOR 22 inch E228WFP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel edit
MEMORY 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz- 2DIMMs edit
HARD DRIVE 500GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™ edit
OPTICAL DRIVE Dual Drives: 48X CDRW/DVD COMBO Drive + 16X DVD+/-RW Drive edit
VIDEO CARD nVidia GeForce 8300GS 128MB


Would it be worth the extra $90 to upgrade to the 256 video? I will probably never game on this computer, maybe watch a movie part, but I do not even see myself watching entire movies. Just lots of Internet and some work stuff. Thanks for helping a computer newb out. Any advice would be great.

Stick with the cheaper card,It will work just fine for you.

And you can upgrade to a better card for the same price using aftermarket parts.

Pretty soon you will be able to get the 8800 GT 512MB for around $100 AR. Double the RAM and more 3D processing power.

Generally it's not a good idea to upgrade cards from the manufacturer. They make their money this way by marking it up several times its market value.
