They ban your IP address to keep you from entering the site.

The way around it is to play by the rules.

HMm

I did play by the rules. I just posted a politically incorrect statement in a social forum and got banned. Isnt there a way to hide my address??

thanks

Perhaps you could email the admins and apologize?

Click Run... on this menu.
If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'cmd' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears. A command prompt window appears on the screen.
Type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes) to view the status of the computer's IP address(es).
If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'ipconfig /release' to let go of the address.
Type 'ipconfig /renew' to obtain a new IP address

or use a proxy

If you have a typical cable modem connection you'll need to turn the modem off for a few hours, maybe even up to a day, then you might get a new IP address assigned. Just flicking it off a few minutes likely will get you the same IP so that is why you need to wait many hours.

got banned once had a new ip address and they later banned me again, i dont know how they found out.

they're not new. if you don't do anything to rectify the situation and instead try to get around the rules, expect to be banned again.

rooobosmith - When you sign up, do so from a library, work, or other computer - not on your own computer and not from your same ISP. Post several times over the next week or so using this alternate source. Post in a different section about things you don't normally discuss.

When you get back to using your own computer, setup a different user account on your computer and use a different browser. If you're using FF or IE, use Opera, for example. Access the net through an anonymizer proxy server to further hide identity.

This is too funny.

It's like a family reunion.

Hugs to all.

Argh

This did not work. Shut off my cable modem for a whole day.

Why so desparate to get back on? They obviously don't want you there.

Click start in windows and there is a run command box.

IP lease time varies by ISP. You may be able to force the issuance of a new IP by changing the MAC address of the primary device attached to the cable modem. If you are using a router, find out how to administer the MAC address, change it, reboot everything, and see if your public IP had changed.

That website uses at least 19 cookies, hence the suggestion to clear all cookies and use a different user profile and browser.

That won't affect his external IP address assigned to the cable modem by the ISP.

I'd take Xnarg's advice if you really want back in that badly rooobo.

Install other browsers (i.e. FireFox, Safari, or Opera would all work), and find a free, open proxy by searching on Google. Once you get that proxy's IP address, you can set your new browser up to direct all traffic through that IP address. It basically will act as your middle man and it'd be impossible (within reason) for SD to trace it back to you. Also, by having a dedicated browser, you can clean up cookies and temp files fast and it won't effect your primary browser and custom settings.

What is this, alt training camp?

OP, jayk already gave you a great suggestion: send an email to the admins acknowledging what you did, promise to never do it again and ask if you may rejoin their site as long as you behave. Creating alt-usernames only puts you at risk for being banned once again if the admins find out, which pretty much blows your chances of re-joining by means of apology. If they tell you to fark off, then just read the forums and not post like so many others do.
