Hello,

May I borrow or have a Windows XP Home or Professional (I prefer XP Pro) restore CD for a Toshiba P305 laptop? If you don't have the CD, would you know who might? Alternatively, how may I create the CD? The laptop currently has Windows Vista Home Premium installed.

I want Windows XP because some of my computer accessories (e.g., old external hard drive) may not work using Vista (so far, only XP drivers are available for them). Although Vista also has other issues, such as being a memory hog, I can live with those.

Thank you so much!

Well, at least how may I create such a CD? Im sure its possible, but I am not sure. And, sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there such a thing as (or something resembling) a "universal" Windows XP restore CD (a Windows XP restore CD that can be created from one computer and used on any brand of computer later)?

you can acquire such a cd by buying a copy of windows xp. vista home premium does not include downgrade rights, so you are not entitled to run xp on that machine unless you have a separate license for it.

"May not work" as in you haven't tried? Some XP drivers will work in Vista.

yes. im trying to guess if there will be issues when i get the laptop and plug in a 40gb iomagic gigabank elite portable hard drive to transfer my hard drive files to the computer. since i dont want to, or can afford to, buy a copy of windows xp, i guess ill have to keep vista.

It should work. External storage devices use the Windows XP drivers that are already installed and the same goes for Vista. My external storage devices continued working when I upgraded to Vista.
