Anyone else hear about the woman who won a trip to a Patriot's game on MIX 98.5 and turned it down? It appears that the station claimed that the trip was worth $20,000 and she had to pony up taxes based on that amount. She figured out that if she arranged the trip herself, it would be about $5,000, which was less than the taxes she would have to pay if she accepted the station's trip.
According to the channel 5 new this morning, the station claimed that the trip value was based on the "experience."
I wonder if the prizes offered to freeloaders fall into the same category.
I personally think that's a bunch of crap on MIX's part. There is no such thing as taxing for "an experience". The actual cost is the actual cost & that's all you should be taxed on. I'm glad the news picked up the story. Maybe MIX will make it right. I heard her win this trip & she was psyched because it's her wedding anniversary and she was going to surprise her husband with the trip. I hope it works out for her.
I agree, I think now that the media is involved they will have to make it right or risk losing listener ratings...
I am getting sick and tired of none of the bonus codes ever working correctly.
I know someone who got a trip through the mix mall and had quite the run around over several months before all was finalized. He says the trip was wonderful but getting the actual confirmation etc was a pain. Not a good way to do business
