We're starting a new Contest and Sweepstakes FAQ, and you've noticed, we don't need a bigger FAQ button for Contest and Sweepstakes - we just need a button, period!

I'm going to be starting a FAQ with just the basics at first - alerting the mods, dealing with reposts, etc. - but I was wondering about the stuff which is exclusive to Contest and Sweepstakes.

What are new users most likely to ignore during their first posting in this forum? What do you want new users to know the about this place?

By all means - please share. I'm wrapping up a FAQ for Free Stuff at the moment, I'm hoping to nail out a rough draft of Contest and Sweepstakes by next Wednesday - feedback is welcome and encouraged!

Quick Summary is created and edited by users like you... Add FAQ's, Links and other Relevant Information by clicking the edit button in the lower right hand corner of this message.

Hope that your FAQ includes how one should ask about what the code word is for whatever and that it is explained that a user will post the codes as they become available.

It will now that you've told me about it. What should I include in the first part of that statement? I'm not sure how to go about that myself. What do you think?

I'm going to qoute a comment made by another user. As a courtesy to fellow members, please limit posts to those that contain an actual code. Of course, there is nothing wrong with posting a legitimate question that a fellow member might help with, but these should be handled in a personal message to an individual than posting them. Asking "what is the code?'" or "did anyone get the code?" gets most members thinking that there may be a new code. Codes are posted by members as they hear them or as they become available. I can only hope that this helps, because it is not a fine feeling of getting chastised by a fellow member on this issue.

You might want to make this a sticky, it might get buried.

Good idea! I forgot how high traffic this forum was!

Hey guys,

I know not much has been done about Contest and Sweepstakes FAQ yet, but I did discuss it at our monthly mod meeting. We will definitely be commenting on rules regarding comment codes and reposts in the FAQ to make sure there are ground rules for everyone to go on.

With that in mind, we are considering moving all of the reward posts (KISS, Coke Rewards) over to Contests and Sweepstakes and renaming the forum "Contests and Rewards." But we're awaiting user input before making any solid decisions, so, ummm, input away!

The intention is a good one by the poster.
A sweepstakes needs information, when it concludes/ends, how many times you can enter, if it's void in certain states, etc.

Thanks, Mum. I'm actually writing up the FAQ as we speak . . . errr . . . post.

Since we're on the subject, what information do you think is necessary to all C&S posting? For HD, its price, place, item and details (MIR, AC, B&M). What suggestion would you have for the forms Contest and Sweepstakes titles should take?

Eventually, we'd like to get a Contest and Sweepstakes Posting Wizard to help conform all the postings (within reason), but we're still working the bugs out of the Hot Deals one right now, so a solid FAQ rule is probably the best bet.

what information do you think is necessary to all C&S posting? •The company who is sponsoring it or name of the sweepstakes for an easy search so no reposts occur. (Title)

•Ending date (Title)

•How often you can enter - daily, once, monthly, weekly, etc.(Title)

•Some sweeps are for kids only, ages 17, 13 and under. Whatever age it is, that should be in the (Title) line so those sweepstakes can be avoided if desired.

•Mention any states that are ineligible/VOID to enter. (Example: You will never see California eligible for any sweepstakes that has beer, liquor or the like offered. Make sure that is posted within the body of the sweepstakes.)

•The body message part should be to the point IMO. What the prizes are and ARV or any other important information. ((Like if you enter a sweeps for a car and it's for the body only))

I have a question for the members who enter the sweeps:
Do you like the rules link in the message part?

At this moment I can't think of anything else.

I can't comment on the radio station threads, since I don't participate in those.

Personally, I do prefer when threads contain a link to the rules.

Thanks, guys.

I'll add this to my FAQ-in-progress tomorrow.

If a red is given for a sweepstakes could the person giving it please explain why? If it's a mistake in a post I made, I'd like to fix it, but can't if I don't know. OR....if it's not a good sweepstakes in your opinion, could we know why?

Mention if it's mail-in entry only.

Can we put up vote requests for sweeps that require ppl to vote on you?

I'm pretty new to sweeps. I have a specific e-mail that I use for entries but what do you folks recommend for phone #'s and DOB?

Phone #s are up to you, but if you enter something that's not current/valid, and they do try to contact you, you might be SOL. I almost lost out on a good prize because the company hosting the contest wanted to speak with me directly. Now I enter my home number, and I haven't had any problems with unwanted calls.

DOB should always be the truth. If you're too old, or too young to enter a contest, then don't. Why would you anyway?

Is there a nice way to tell people that the Contests & Sweepstakes forum is for posting Contests & Sweepstakes, not questions about taxes or certain companies, etc.?
