Thanks for the post. I'll give it a shot. I had planned to buy a car this coming week, actually. Maybe, because of this long-shot chance, I'll hold off a week. Any additional day I hold off on buying a new car and keep driving the old one saves me money anyway.
I call dibs on this, this is mine. Everyone back off! rofl

The cars I've been looking at were around the $20k range, and being able to get this one at 16k would be awesome.

Just pick 6 numbers from 1-49 and you have a chance to buy 1,000,000 for just $1!!! Julestwo said: Can't hurt to try! Three people will get it at that price.... and I am going to be one of them! Normal people do not have a chance to buy the BMW. Items like that are bought by people writing code/scripts on university servers on the internet trunk, if not just in the same city with the AMEX server. Besides, each individual offer hardly needs posting. One for the AMEX wishlist should be more than enough.

Here's my $16,838 in cash. I'd like my BMW now. Oh wait, I can't get one even though I've got the cash. RED.

Not sure how this would work. Sales or use tax would be on the price paid, at least in my state. Income taxes may apply. Last year they had a Mercedes GLK350 for about 1/2 price. The details mentioned they also included cash to help pay the taxes on the "prize". Anyway it depends on what they are claiming the value is. Since you are purchasing this BMW, that is if you are VERY lucky, it might be a non taxable gain. Since you still have to pay for the prize, it may be no different than getting a great deal at a car dealer. Even then the most they could claim as prize winnings would be the difference between the price paid and the value they claim. Of course it would pay to consult a tax professional IF you win!
This thread is simply "noise" and is only serving to clutter up the Hot Deals forum. The forum would quickly become useless to most of us if junk like this continues to be posted.
That is, unless we're all supposed to start posting the contents of our junk mail. I don't know if y'all have heard, but I may have already won a million dollars, so I might not be around here much longer.

I think there's too much hatorade here. Geez, it's just information that some people, like myself, want to see and find useful. If you don't, then just skip over this post. No one is forcing you to read it and respond. If you don't want the car, carry on.

Sounds like tooloud needs to switch to the modern view and use the filters. It keeps the clutter down as you use only deals useful to YOU! This thread maybe noise to most and I know the OP got a lot of red but some folks do have an interest.
This is a contest, not a deal, which means math to determine whether it's worth it.
There are raffles all the time in the back of car and driver for a "free" car. Odds for those are maybe 1:4,000,000 to win the free car, usually one in the $60k range. Now this car prices in the $40k's, and the raffle is really for a discount and you need to buy the car. One would hope this provision would cut down on the participation and thus reduce the odds. (I'm making several assumptions about the rules here.) However, I would think your odds, at best, for a nationally promoted American Express promotion are going to be WORSE than 1 in 10 million, so why bother?
In truth I have no idea on actual odds, I am just guessing, so if anyone has any actual insight or improved theories, please post here.

It takes 10 seconds out of your life. Might as well try. Especially for people who are looking for a new car like I am. This would be a steal.

No the reds are there because the OP should not have posted in the hot deals forum -- it's a contest (sweepstakes), not a hot deal.
In all previous years to my knowledge, the AMEX wishlist was always posted in the contest/sweepstake forum. However, the last couple of years, there were tons of people posting a new post in the Hot Deals section; as the mods shut down one, another would pop up. I think the mods much have decided that it's of enough general interest that they're allowing it in Hot Deals this year. It seems like whatever they do, some people will be unhappy.

So frustrating, I clicked it at exactly the right moment, there's almost no way to win these things, they might as well just make it a drawing. Sheez. Anyone get it? How do you win the click race?
I just scored a WalMart statement credit of $100 for spending $200. My madness paid off. I had about 5 windows open and resized and cascaded in such a way so that all the "I want it" buttons were close to each other. Then I started a mad frenzy of clicking all as fast as I could then when the dust cleared I looked to see what each window yielded. Too bad I'm not eligible to win another one.
