bj501 said: Does anyone know if the upcoming deal will include an upgrade for the free and clear plans ?

This news does not apply to free and clear plans as I understand it. It's possible that there will be something else that does. Are there currently restrictions on certain phones with the plan you have?

jeffwtux said: Not sure if I have a "SERO" plan, but I do have a "free & clear" plan where I get 1000 anytime + 8pm N&W for $40 + $10 for unlimited data. My treo 700p that I bought on eBay died on me so in a pinch when I needed a phone, I went to WorstBuy (aka Best Buy) and got a LG Rumor Touch for $29 with a 2 year contract that let me keep my plan. Am I SOL now? What if I buy an Android phone on eBay? Will this now allow me to replace my LG Rumor Touch with an eBay phone? That's all I'm really asking for here.

You definitely do not have a SERO plan. You probably have a plan from retentions. The only 2 real SERO plans (and thus the plans that this applies to) are the 500 minute plan (plus txting and data) for $30 and the 1250 minute plan (plus txt and data) for $50.

Since you don't have a SERO plan, this news doesn't really apply to you. If they currently restrict you from having an Android phone on the plan you have, you'll just have to wait and see if they list those restrictions when they lift them for the SERO plan holders on 10/1. The fact that you bought a new phone and signed a new contract won't matter though. If they allow Android phones on your plan, you'll be able to get one unsubsidized from eBay or wherever and activate it on your plan.

I still think this is a rumor though. For guys highly expect this to happen, or say depend on this to happen, you should find a backup plan.

I have a Free and Clear family plan. I have 4 phones that all have unlimited web, text,
and minutes.

I don't have free mms and my web loads are dismal so wondered if this would help
us out.

Nitpicky, but that's incorrect. There were 3 Sero plans, the 500, 1250, and 2500 minute plans.

Michael

I wonder if this applies to the Fair & Flexible plans as well.

FAMIR said: I still think this is a rumor though. For guys highly expect this to happen, or say depend on this to happen, you should find a backup plan.
Given who's potentially eligible for this deal, I'm pretty sure most of our backup plans will be to simply stick with SERO in its current form...

The truth is despite my envy of all these "great apps" that Android has and how they are so way more powerful, I'm not sure that I need much more than the Rumor Touch. It does pretty much everything I need: talk, map, email, and text. As far as texting & emailing, I can't possibly see how there is a better phone period for these 2 things: great keyboad

Well, sometime the web requests hang even though you have a great signal. That would be the reason, the web browser.

TheSaint said: Mastawoo said: Do we still think that they'd support WinMo7 at $30 a month though?

The general feeling is that no, most likely no WinMo7 on $30 SERO plans. WinMo 6.5 is most likely as good as it'll ever get for $30 SERO users.

It may be time to get a TP2 and then cook it to WinMo7.

awesome, i was just thinking of jettisoning my SERO plan (& samsung m610) for a new shiny Android phone. I'll have to hold out for another month to see where this goes. And it's a nice bonus to get free texting...unfortunately I'm on the old SERO plan w/o texting. Hope corporate discounts hold as well. Phone plans are such a mess.

This may not be the time or place to do this... but I am in severe need of a cheap cell phone plan and I think SERO is my best option.

If any fellow FWers have a line they aren't using or are still able to duplicate their SERO, I would be interested in purchasing one. Please PM me if so! Thanks in advance.

I apologize if this isn't allowed on the thread!

I was very, very close the jettisoning my Palm Centro on an out-of-contract SERO plan just a week before the rumor broke. I am eagerly awaiting the chance to upgrade, although I can't honestly say that Sprint has any phones right now that I want. The EVO is way too big... the Epic could be all right, but I also think that, with the keyboard, it might be too thick. I really wish something the size of the Incredible were available.

Or, I wish there were some new 3G options for those of us that don't live in a 4G area.

Not a rumor. I was told this by a Sprint CSR about the $10 upgrade the same day this post went up. I was looking to get a new phone on my SERO and wanted to know what was available.

FAMIR said: I still think this is a rumor though. For guys highly expect this to happen, or say depend on this to happen, you should find a backup plan.

Can anyone confirm if on the SERO Plan we will be able to upgrade to a Epic for $250 if we resign? Or will I have to buy this straight?

Yep, you'll be able to if you're up for your upgrade. SERO plans fall under the regular upgrade policies. New device every 24 months for plans of less than $69/month. You get Premier if you have a plan over $69/month for 3 months in a row.

this may be all well and good from a (SERO) plan standpoint, but Sprint still has crappy phones. Verizon offers the best selections with Droid X and Incredible.

don't know how much longer i'll hold on to my Sero 500 plan before jumping ship.

the EVO is a crappy phone?

Another post which holds absolutely no credibility.

Everytime the SERO issue pops up, you get your handful of "I was on the phone with a csr, and yes, they told me it is true..." or the usual, "my friend, who is the sister of the boyfriend of a manager at a Sprint retail store told me it's true..."

Yeah, cause the Droid X and the EVO are sooooooooo different.

Dude, Russ has published publicly about this. I don't know much more credible of a source you can get than that. If you don't believe a post by Russ on his own blog, I don't know what you consider proof.

It's fairly well accepted that the EVO is better than the Droid X. Although, the Droid X has a better CPU (mainly in triangle setup), the EVO is preferred for it's Sense UI interface (which is also on the incredible) and better cameras. Add 4G (if applicable), it's pretty sweet.

Samsung Epic is is also accepted to be better than the Droid 2 because of better keyboard. Samsung's UI is kinda blah as well though.

Well would a direct response from one of Sprint's VPs have any credibility? A lot of information has come from answers provided by Russ Mcguire's blog, where he has been answering questions regarding this SERO upgrade. It's in the OP. http://mcguireslaw.com/2009/07/24/psst-the-palm-pre-is-now-available-through-everything-plus/
Scroll towards the bottom.

I have e-mails from a Rebekka Coris at sprint who denied Russ is a VP, denied his claims and said the confusion was a misclassification of an internal communication:
"
John,
I found the internal communication regarding the information you gave me. There is a change as of 09/1/10 and it will be a $10 add on to existing customers rates for the data access. It is for the Advantage Club customers. There is also a $10 add on for the enhanced network as well. This information was found when researching your concern. Someone else decided to mark it as a Sero rate plan which is completely incorrect. The only customers with this change are from the Advantage Club rates. I apologize deeply. The information that was provided to FATWALLET was not from a VP. Again I apologize.

Russ has been around forever and was the person who allows anyone to get into the Sprint Everything Plus Plans through his ID. He has worked for Sprint for many years and is 100% legit. He is not the VP of sprint directly but VP of their strategy department.

There are also screen captures from internal Sprint documents showing the change.

Perhaps Rebekka could simply google "Russ McGuire" and "Sprint" to get a clue.

What's up with the knee-jerk hating on my post. I did really speak to a CSR, she really did tell me to wait until October 1 to upgrade b/c the SERO plan + $10 would get me the better phones, and this was BEFORE I saw the post on FW. Jeez, try to post some information and this is what you get.

I have no doubt that corecomps talked to Rebekka Coris a Sprint customer service rep. However, I also find it very credible that a CS rep would not know who every company VPs is, not to mention that VP's insight into future plans.

If SERO doesn't change, it's still a great deal, but quickly showing it's age. If it does change I think it's a cost of good intentions to valued SERO customers, while still showing a small profit for the company. Not to mention loads of good will from every SERO customer. As opposed to, "bumming potential Sprint customers out" that most SERO customers are likely to do today.

This is the best news I've heard in a while. I was just about to jump ship from Sero because I can't take my nasty buggy Touch Pro (1, not 2) anymore and have been craving Android. Thank God I waited! I think I can hobble along until October.

Have the TP2 since March 2010. I was initially bummed that this was the "best" I can get out of SERO but honestly after a little bit of unlocking and running an alternate rom (firmware). Plus it's overclocked to 700+ Mhz.. I like the Epic for the 4G but the added cost of ownership to my sero plan and cost of phone purchase makes it less appealing suddenly.

Exactly! That's why I think referencing an encounter with a CSR to substantiate an event is pointless!

But referencing a Sprint VP is not pointless, which is where this SERO upgrade info can be substantiated.

i had to give up my SERO plan years ago due to some family reasons. anyone knows if anyway i can reactivate it?

how do you "work" for a company that can get sero or sero like benefits?
for example if u "work" for gm sprint.com/gm
if u "work" for accenture sprint.com/accenture

edit: is sprint hiring for any part time work?

glintboy7 said: the EVO is a crappy phone?

when android fanboys say things... no one cares

people say
ugh no keyboard(icrap 4 has keyboard either)
OMG OMG OMG 4 hr battery life(yea when used as a mifi over 4G)
build quality = suks (pay no attention to death grip or proximity sensors on the iphone 4)
sprint suks (trying using an iphone 3gs in NYC or san fransisco and making a one hour phone call that doesnt drop)

my biggest complaint about the evo is thee $10 premium 4g fee. i dont live in a 4g area but i still have to pay the 10 dolla fee.

For those who are choosing to stick with the $30 plan and their TP2's, I'd seriously recommend overclocking your phone. It's dead easy to get it around 750mhz, and is a completely transformed phone. Everything is basically instant, no lag.
