Just tried to price match at Sears and they told me their model number is different than the discontinued one, so they are holding their price. idiots.

Trying now to order from micro center and it seems to be hanging at the stage where it verifies payment. Something tells me it won't be going through.
finally went through after numerous attempts and getting errors about not being able to process. Took a few times but it finally went through we will see if i actually get one.

Just an FYI that HP announced they are discontinuing all WEBOS hardware including their touchpad and phones. This is a move directly related to disapointing sales as well as the fact that they want to spin off their PC business. At $99, I think the device is an awsome deal, although limited apps will be available moving forward.
Also, HP stated that the hardware for the touchpad was created before their acquistion of Palm so its rather outdated and slow.

But it gets on the Internet, Plays Youtube and Hulu on a nice screen... So for $99 who cares.
If they started out at a reasonable price, they wouldn't have to be discontinuing these... $400+ for a tablet with limited capabilities is just insane.
I really like the software, but it's just to proprietary for a tablet.
BestBuy's website now states the following: "... Best Buy's HP TouchPad Return and Price Match Policies
What should I do if I purchased the HP TouchPad outside of the 14-day return policy and would like to return it?
Best Buy is extending its return/exchange policy on the HP TouchPad and all HP TouchPad accessories to 60 days. Come into a Best Buy store and we will help you find another tablet to fit your needs or issue you a refund.
Does the Best Buy Price Match policy still apply if I see the HP TouchPad discounted at another retailer?
No. As of August 19, 2011, the HP TouchPad is on clearance and we will no longer be selling the units so we will not offer any price matches. As mentioned above, we will still be offering an extended return/exchange policy.

Went to PC Richard store and ordered a 16GB at $100. They said they are out of stock, but they ordered 3000 pieces which would arrive in two weeks. I pre-paid and they will call me once it's ready for pick-up. YAY!
It's an eReader! It's a web browser! It's a media player! It's not much else, and now an orphan... Seriously though, for a lot of uses this is a really hot deal. As long as there is a Kindle and Barnes & Noble app, then this really is a pretty cool gift for a kid, or someone who doesn't need a vibrant app store.

cnIsfg said: For those still looking. I was able to easily PM at Sears this morning and even apply a $10 coupon Sears had in their Satuday ad in my local newsaper. I used the HP site for the PM but it looks like HP has completely removed the Touchpad from their store site. However you should still be able to easily PM using the other retailers showing the new pricng.
BTW I initially tried Staples and the manager stated they received a memo stating that all unsold units were to be returned to HP. I am not sure I believe him though. It is well known Staples.com and B&M support services do not work on the weekend.
Make sure your Sears carries them. Just went to one in Coral Gables and they don't. Can order to store but won't price match.

HP announced they would be buying back all the inventory so I was just wondering why retailers would dump their inventory or PM when they can just return back to the mfg for credit towards future purchaases...wondering if this $99 is all hype. Best Buy had the most stock so I would be interested to see who is actually able to get the touch pad for $99. It's possible some of the stores did not get the memo from corporate which is what I suspect is happening for those that were lucky to score probably on the east coast. Based on the responses very few people are reporting success.
please continue posting the stores that you are able to score from...in particular any stores in the bay area
anyone have luck PM at Fry's or Costco?

Office Depot and Best Buy told me they are sending theirs all back to HP and not discounting them. Staples this morning still has them at regular retail. Radio Shack does not have them in the stores. Their price online is regular price, but shows no availability, so I'm guessing that they are sending them back too. So they may show up on the HP site soon with more inventory.
Was able to get 2 of the 32G @ $149 at Sams in Addison TX this morning. They had two left when we left there.

I would imagine that once all the retailers who AREN'T doing the fire sale send their shipments back to HP (ahem, Best Buy), the HP website will be back in stock. In a few weeks, I guess?

OfficeMax store said all were pulled and being shipped back.. and the woman at WalMart was very rude when I just asked about the demo version and if it were for sale..she was giving the stock answer that they were sold out yada yada yada... I wanted to know if she would sell the demo... she wouldn't.

That's not accurate, Office Depot here in S Florida is definitely selling them at $129/$149, the stores here only had 2-3 in stock and typically sold them to the first customer standing in line at the door when they opened.
Microcenter has the 32 right now for $169 shipped.

HP was originally buying back all inventory, but they decided yesterday to instead write off the value of existing stock and lower the retail price to $99 / $149. Retailers can choose to sell at this price and be reimbursed by HP for the difference, which is much cheaper and easier than sending them back to HP, since there is actually still a retailer profit built into the $99 price.

sounds reasonable then again why are people reporting that stores are telling them that unsold inventory is being returned to the mfg? so far we have seen a handful of people report success and I suspect those people got lucky with a PM before the corporate memo makes it's way out today across all the stores...out of stock everywhere.....kind of reminds me of the frenzy surrounding the latest fad toys. I am thinking the retailers have already decided to pull the items and send back to HP.
Microcenter has the 32 right now for $169 shipped.
$181 w/tax & shipping... it was OOS earlier this morning. Hoping to still find a 16GB

I just got two 32gb at Sam's Club B&M. Signs still showed the old $480 price, but they rung up at $149 each. They had trouble finding them, finally got them in one of the cell phone cases and only saw the two I got. Don't be fooled by the full displays of big cardboard 'take to register' cards. They may have had a little more - none of us realized they were already set for $149 until after they got mine, so they didn't keep looking. But my cashier and the woman who tracked these down were extremely interested after they saw that.

Was able to get 2 of the 32G @ $149 at Sams in Addison TX this morning. They had two left when we left there. Ordered a 32gb from Staples.com for $500 (and paper clips $0.75) with a $30 off coupon and then price matched to Office Depot's price of $149.99. The final price is $120 plus tax. Thanks.

just got an order confirmation with microcenter. I ordered at 8:15 EST. The confirmation says:
"The estimated ship date of 08/23/11 assumes all items on your order are in stock at our fulfillment location. Occasionally, we run into unexpected delays during the fulfillment process. Should this occur, we will notify you with the appropriate details and options available."
so we will see

FYI someone on another site said they called Microcenter:
"I ordered a 16GB TouchPad from MicroCenter’s web site at 8:30 Eastern and got an order confirmation by email. One hour later I got an email cancelling the order. I called MicroCenter’s customer support line and was told that HP dropped the price on them “out of the blue” and they had only 100 in stock"
