Well, I spoke to 3 rewards employees (long story) on the phone today and 2 of them told me that recent system change has enabled online purchases to issue balance rewards coupon too.  But again, we all know how knowledgeable Staples employees are.

I suppose it's possible there's been a change but the T&Cs on my latest recycling rewards still state: "If Reward is not redeemed in full on in-store purchase, a one-time-only coupon with the expiration date of the original Reward will be printed for any remaining balances of $1.00 or more. No balance coupon will be given on online or phone orders. Balance coupon may be used for future store, online or phone purchases. Expired Rewards cannot be reissued. Staples reserves the right to change the Rewards program at any time without notice."

I have a feeling that you're right as I didn't get my balance coupon from last week's online purchase but the rewards "specialist" insisted that it must be a temporary system glitch that I didn't get my balance coupon.

Just do it but don't take it to checkout. You'll find out if you can or not.

Well I don't have the coup, I'd be buying it so I'd hoped that I could find out whether or not it's possible before gambling on it working and possible wasting some $$. I guess if no one can say for sure, then that's all I have is a gamble.

thx

You can get a 10/50 for free that should work online. Use that before you buy a 25/75. Take that one to just before checkout. A dollar coupon is a dollar coupon.

O yeah, the magic coup right? I forgot about that, great idea! thanks for that tip!

I bought a refurbished laptop online this week with 7 rewards checks. It's my last chance to use up all the saved rewards since they expire in 2 months now. 2 of the checks were balance coupons. They all expire on 10/31 or later.

Next week, there is a coupon for $75 off computers regularly priced $399 or more. Can I return the laptop and get all of my rewards back (including the 2 balance coupons), reorder the laptop at a kiosk, and use $75 off coupon to pay in store? Or can I just wait until Sunday and ask the manager to apply the coupon to the previous purchase? The coupon is in-store only and they will see that it was an online purchase.

Update: The laptop is now on clearance, $71 cheaper than I bought it for. The coupon excludes clearance items, so I'll just ask for a price match.

When you're doing the return and the rewards are within 1 week of expiration, then the balance coupon will expire at the end of the following month. Also, you can get back a one-time balance coupon if the original rewards have not expired.

What number do I call to have them issue a check, instead of the rebate card? I remember someone mentioned last month that it's possible, but I can't find that post.

Re: One coupon per customer issue. Week of 11/2 to 11/8/2014

Used the sampling technique to check on my local Staples stores. One of three stores refused to budge and permit multiple use of this week's One cent coupon for the multipurpose paper ream; the purchase was going to be limited to one coupon so I cancelled the purchase.

Limit is four rebates per household.

I Bought some paper yesterday to burn some expiring rewards, cashier gave me a gift card with remaining balance instead of letting it print out for the balance is that just a mistake by the cashier or possibly they are switching over?

rated:
wow.   Gift cards don't expire and Rewards expiration has been shortened.  Would be really nice if not a mistake but funny way to learn about it so I'm guessing mistake.

Went to another Staples today for more paper, used rewards and the machine wouldn't process the zero balance so she gave me another giftcard for remaining rewards. Hopefully someone else has this happen and can confirm.

Gift card loses the tax-free advantage of balance coupon.

True, but for some like me having lots of rewards with tight expiration dates is more trouble than paying tax.

I went to Staples today, same thing happened, I got a gift card instead of a balance coupon. The cashier said she heard it was something new that Staples is doing. The best thing about these is they are not account specific, so if I wanted to give one of my kids or grand kids a gift card, I can. My question is, how many gift cards per purchase can you use? In the past you were limited to 5 rewards per purchase, but of course that's now a game changer because of the new expiration dates have changed for premier accounts, so no go on that.

Back of Staples gift cards says limit 5 (which is the online limit) but the register really has no limit.

CSR's don't know whats going on.  I got a balance coupon today, but CSR thought it would issue a card.  My guess, you get the card for balance < $10.

That would be interesting for folks in CA where merchants are required to cash out gc balances <$10.

Could be a regional rollout of software changes which is why some are  getting a gift card and some are getting a balance coupon with the old software.

I got a balance coupon for <$5. However, it tacked on another month for me to use it.

Amusingly, the email receipt has a misspelling: 'Valid trough: 12/30/14'

Please do not use the Rewards program.   You are helping to subsidize my Rewards!

So November Rewards expire tomorrow....does anyone know if that means they are good until midnight EST tomorrow? I was going to use them today but then I saw Staples email that said new Cyber Monday sales are going to be announced tomorrow. I just don't want to try to use Rewards at say 7pm tomorrow and then find out they are expired.

Here's what I'd do. Go to the store tomorrow and buy something cheap.  If these are original rewards they should issue you a balance coupon good for another month since you are redeeming them in the last 7 days they are good. You will have to use the balance coupon in its entirety but it can be used online. Assuming that is acceptable to you. I have no idea if there is even a one day grace period online for rewards. Make sure you get a physical receipt as the email ones tend to get lost at times and yours would have a balance coupon.

They must have opened up a new ink recycling center in IL. Last months label for CA is not showing up as completely rec. (my UPS tracking stops on 11/21). I submitted a complaint on 20 carts not credited. Anybody else see that with the mail in recycling.

I mailed on the 1st of this month and it's still not showing up as received, although the UPS tracking shows it was delivered on Dec 8.

A UPS item showing as delivered means as far as they are concerned you received it...

Hey guys my premier status is expiring soon. I have netted $100 and odd dollars in purchases toward keeping premier. I mainly care about the 20 ink carts perk. Should I make a $400 push for PLUS or forego the $100 and start over next year? Also if I have to start over when or what date does the year's purchases begin netting results.

Purchases for 2014 end on 12/31/2014 and purchases for 2015 start on 01/01/2015.

You no longer need to get to Premier to get the 40 ink recycling it's now included in the plus ($500 level) membership.
*****Sorry I just reread your post and see you are aware of the plus level, obviously I'm a little slow this morning after too much holiday cheer last night. I'd try to find things I need or gifts to get to the $500.

You've only spent a total of $100 OOP for the entire year?
