I am no TV guru, we have recently found 2 different HD sets under $200 & decided to upgrade our Directv to HD & get a 3rd. It had to be cheap, and I wanted LED. I found these on Costco.com. We are limited to a space 40" wide so we went back & forth between a larger TV or the 3D, and we went with the 42". I saw it at WalMart (it is $398 there) and it was head & shoulders above all the sets around it, and that was without a HD signal. Costco didn't have in the warehouse or knew anything about them. Sears didn't have the 3d in the store either. WM had on display but not in stock. Are there better TVs out there? For sure, but I don't think you can beat the price for 1080 in my opinion, and the Costco warranty is fantastic. I hope these links are OK.

Costco has an automatic 2 year warranty & you can add 3 more years for $29.99

Green, but how did you get the 42" TV into the 40" spot?

And $200 deals? Yowzers!

The TV has not arrived yet, but the specs say 39. something inches wide and I verified that by measuring the set I saw at WalMart.

I got a 32" Coby 720 last year and a Seiki 32 LED about a month ago as a deal of the day at Sears. We had 9 & 10 year old giant dinosaur TVs to replace, I think they were more than $200 at the time.

42 inch diagonal set should not have a problem in a 40 inch wide space.

My dad wanted a TV for is bedroom so I purchased a refurb Visio 32 inch LCD on eBay for $189 with free delivery/no tax in my state. Visio TV on eBay Ordered yesterday and delivery is scheduled today. I wasn't expecting next day delivery! If you are looking for sub-$200 LCD, check it out. I believe this is sold by BestBuy's return/refurb affiliate.

I wish I had a Costco membership.

But do you want a membership enough to pay for one? BTW, Costco is regularly a hot deal. With the membership, and based on your credit eligibility, you coud get a free Costco AMEX Card which should give you 1% back at Costco and other places, 3% on gasoline, and an extra year on the standard two year TV warranty at Costco. BTW, the credit card would be free, but you still have to pay the bill for your purchases charged to it

Get 2 and mount the side by side. Watch movie/sports while playing on xbox/ps3/pc or 2nd sports game.

Find someone who does and go with them or have them buy you a costco cash gift card.

Or just pay the $17 nonmember surcharge.

is Hisense a decent brand?

My question too. Although brand names are often put on products made by others these days so maybe brand is less significant than it used to be. Looking at the company's site, seems it's been around for about 15 years in China and is now making a push into the US. Anyone know whether it will be another Samsung like success?

great deal!
My family was looking for a new TV, but didn't know where to start looking.
I do have a costco membership so it's all good

Costco AMEX requires an annual fee - it's not free. & if you upgrade to executive (black card) you get even better savings

What is your source of misinformation?

Costco membership has an annual fee. Costco members are eligible for the Costco AMEX card with no fee (must meet the credit requirements).

if it helps:
I own the Hisenese 55'' 3d led, purchased from WalMart for little under 1000 (after tax). No complain so far, except for the warranty. I must say that I didnt find a cheaper 55'' led-3d in past 3 mths. Overall, Hisense made a great 55'' tv ... if it lasts. With costco warranty, you cannot go wrong!

UPDATE: today I received the Hisense 42" LED TV, shipped via UPS from Costco. The shipping time was pretty fast. The TV was very easy to hook up. So far, after a few hours, the picture looks very good and the sound is a lot better than our Coby TV. It even comes with a handy card with the codes to program a Directv remote, or several other universal remotes. It was a pleasant surprise how well it all went. UPS didn't come until 8 PM, but other than that, the whole experience was a piece of cake. Who knows how long it will last, but with 5 years of warranty, I'm not that worried.

I was really close to buying this HiSense 42" and SquareTrade warranty for 5 years. In total with tax/shipping to TX it was ~$421. Good deal for a 42" tv with 5 years warranty.

But instead this morning I bought this one from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007E80K56
TCL LE43FHDF3300TA 43-Inches 1080p LED Television - Black

Amazon has a $40 off special on the above TV making it $409.99 with free 2-day Prime shipping and no tax in TX (yet!). The tv has a 2 year warranty and I used my AMEX to purchase it to extend it to 3. So I paid a little less and got a slightly bigger TV with a 3-year warranty period.

Best part for me is the TCL 43" TV is actually a little smaller than the HiSense 42" and is a perfect fit for my enclosure. Never had any experience with HiSense or TCL so that makes me a little nervous. Hopefully the gamble pays off. Costco also carries the TCL for $449 right now:

Buy one & get a full refund on it anytime.

Anyone know what the power draw on the 42"er is. I think the stand by is <1 W, but not sure of the in use number. Thanks
