We were evacuated for 13 days, and returned to our home standing just as we left it!, However, food rotted from the power being out for 2 weeks and the tummy turning stench cannot be removed. We should have $1k to spend from insurance but I want to get a fatwallet price on the nicest one we can get.
thank you for any suggestions, I would be thrilled to use a sale price and use coupon code and CashBack all at once!
Fatwallet has something called a Hot Deals forum. As Marlin1975 suggests above, it currently has lots of appliance deals.
Stacking coupon codes, CashBack does not necessarily result in the best deal. We have been the most successful with appliances at Sears, who will PM most any other retailer, stack current promotions - particularly if you buy the extended warranty (cancel after delivery, buy one from SquareTrade).
I would imagine that most of your neighbors are in the same boat, new fridges will be in short supply, so I would act sooner than later.

There seems to be different methods for getting out smell from a refrigerator, have you exhausted all possibilities? Seems cheaper than a new fridge.

It can be done, but it's serious cleaning and usually various parts have to be taken apart to get at all the stuff that's probably sitting behind various pieces of plastic.

Does your electric company also give you an allowance to replace the food since your power was out for so long? In New York, Con Ed gives us $150 if the power is out for more than a few days.

When the utility poles and facilities have burned down due to wildfires, it is not the power company's fault.

Baking soda and/or bleach along with some elbow grease. I find that easier than buying a new one unless you're looking to upgrade anyway.

the family handyman suggests using newspaper and charcoal, several times over a period of a few days.
I'd go get a Lowes movers coupon and hit Lowes and home depo+ and Sears, asap before any floor models/clearances are sold. Craigslist? (chance you're getting someone else's stinky fridge), and those could be picked over by now as well. That appliance store, College and 50th(?) south had decent prices, but I never bought from them, but I was never in a hurry. The appliance store in old town usually had higher prices, sometimes fancier models; not very FW-ish.
An alternative is to get the cheapest piece of junk (craigslist) that runs, then within the next 6 months, shop at your (relative) leisure. Best of luck.

Went into a local appliance dealer, only 2 left, and gave him the dimensions of the slot that the old refrigerator fit in. Asked if he had any that were dented on sides that he could discount. He didn't, but called the regional distributor and he had several that fit the bill. I looked at several of the models in the store that were identical. Picked one, shipped it and the thing arrived, delivery people unpacked it, brought in kitchen, couldn't find a mark on it? Box didn't even have a mark? Got a $2000 refrigerator for a $1000 off. Warranty the same and it's lasted the past 8 years. Makes ice fast with great dispenser system in door. Amana brand, 26 cu.ft., side by side, Stainless Steel, even got an energy star rebate back of $125. Just looking around for the current prices and find that an Amana 25.1 cu.ft. is but $1200 now. Prices seem to have gone down quite a bit. Wish you luck on a deal.

Thank you all for the great responses!
We have a Samsung RF263 arriving tomorrow from Sears, $1750 -5% using Sears CC and $70 delivery. Not a killer deal.....but I think we did ok considering the circumstances. My insurance company authorized $60 for a dorm fridge (could not serve babys formula from stinky one) to get us by for the last week and it has done its job
I will also look into the energy star rebate for sure.
We tried baking soda, activated charcoal, bleach, and airing out in between all the former and the stench would relent for awhile, but everytime we

opened and closed the door the stench got worse. Apparently the plastic used in the interior is porous and absorbs the odor so even though the source of odor is gone it remains in the walls of the fridge.
And YES, we did have he opportunity to upgrade.

Sounds like you did not use enough elbow grease but everything worked out in the end. Glad everyone is ok
