Misleading title ...

A possible merger between American Airlines and U.S. Airways that would create the nation's largest carrier could be in the works and announced as soon as next week.

Close enough!

So, if you would be buying some tickets for flying later this year, would you expect the prices to be higher now, after a merger announcement, or neither?

What about My FF miles???

But would they be devalued?

Might be a good time to get in applications for the Citi 50k AA cards...

How about the impact of possible merger on their stock price?

How about the crap service and increased confusion form combining two systems (See Continental/United merger)?

How could American's service get worse? At least in my experience they're like the ATT of the airline world.

sounds like its a done deal already.

as to stock, AA is CH11, and Usair is already over valued due to the merger talks for the last year.

ProfitAfterRebates said:   How about the crap service and increased confusion form combining two systems (See Continental/United merger)?Delta and NWA merged and ended up with better service (IMHO, as one who flew both extensively).

this would be crazy if it happens - I have seen new AA planes - prices will go up for sure - US Airways are not the best airline

I think Skypesos are not worth what the NWA product was worth.

How many of our current national air carriers did not exist before airline deregulation?

I'd also like to know what typically happens to FF miles. Should I reinstate my 21k us airway miles for $150 in the hopes they will become AA miles?

fairenough said:   I'd also like to know what typically happens to FF miles.Delta + Norwest = merged accounts.
America West + US Airways = merged accounts
Southwest + AirTran = "quasi" merged accounts
United + Continental = merged accounts
American + US Airways = take a guess

Geez and AA just came out with a new design on all their planes

I hope they keep the Bankdirect partnership and I can finally use my 500K miles out of PHX. Maybe bring back the million miler status??

You can change your title back.

the combined carrier will be called American Airlines and be based in Fort Worth. the new airline will keep all of American's hubs – Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago, Miami, New York and Los Angeles – and those of US Airways, in Phoenix, Charlotte and Philadelphia. Many airline mergers have resulted in some hubs being downgraded, as happened to Cincinnati after Delta bought Northwest.
