Make sure of the specs for your equipment. The De*ll 8250 takes 184Pin 16 Bit Rambus in sets of 2!!!

no reason not to pay $3 more for a Lifetime warrenty. i've never heard of this cheap brand before

Sounds good.
Anyone have any experience with this vendor?

Only that it is a Yahoo site vendor.
BTW $3.00 more for Samsung lifetime is correct! However my experiance with memory is if it works for a week......

A year from now we will be looking for RAM Jet memory ( Ha Ha )
The big question is will Rambus be cheap or even available....
Hopefully the volume that Dell did will help that issue.

Lifetime warranty doesn't mean much to me. I had a NIC from "CNet". That's right. It locked up my PC and corrupted the OS. Got a replacement and same problem. Ended up eating the loss.

remember to buy in 2's.

Well if you have a problem with your ram, you will notice it in the first year. I never heard of ram just dieing (unless you do something that probably voids the warrenty anyhow) like a monitor or hard drive does. Besides, you probably will have a new computer in a few years anyhow that most likely will have diffrent ram.

Btw, the review of digi4you...

Thanks Diadem for the ratings link. I could not remember the site.

Will the Samsung 184 pin 1066 Rambus (256MB) work with the Dell 8250's? It is $96.

<<Will the Samsung 184 pin 1066 Rambus (256MB) work with the Dell 8250's? It is $96.>>

That was the $3 difference mentioned above!

My unit has Samsung from Dell. I thought they all did?

BUMP New Prices! UPDATED 1/15

$44.36 for 128 (ea)

$98.25 for 256 (ea)

read previous post in this thread for links!!

This does not make me feel to good about ordering from them (but it is probably just a normal disclaimer):

<< Attention Computer Memory Buyers: ( especially if you are buying memory upgrades for name brand computers like IBM, Dell, Toshiba, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, etc.) Since there are over hundreds types of memory modules and they are using different type of DRAMs to build them, so it is very easy that you are buying a memory module which is not compatible with your computer. For example, there might be 3-4 different types of 128MB memory modules and some computers are very picky and can only support 1 type or 2 types of 128MB memory modules. If it is incompatible, then usually you will not be able to boot up your system or you will see frozen screen or system might only recognize half of the memory size. In order to avoid this kind of situations, we strongly suggest you to order memory modules from www.MemoryPro.com. >>

$89.25 for 256MB PC1066 from the link Equiptec posted before!
The manufacturer number is the same as what I have right now, so it's the 32ns kind not 40ns.

2 x 89.25 = $178.50 not bad at all, I just paid $210 in december from googlegear...

Original Samsung PC1066

New Prices Sat. 1/18

$88.73 for 256MB... see link in last post.

or $177.46 for 512 We're gettting there... Now just to get the rebates......

Hi,there:
Could anybody tell me which memory should I choice for 8250?
16bit 184pin RDRAM 1066MHz No ECC Samsung Original Memory ----from knowledgemicro (the link provided above)
Samsung Original Rambus 256MB 32bit 1066MHz Memory ---from googlegear
Kingston Rambus 128MB 16bit 1066MHz Memory Retail ----from googlegear

I am really confused by those complex Rambus memeory. 16bit or 32bit? Thanks for anyone who could help me!!!

16 bit yes...32 bit no, if the Kingston is their value ram starting with KVM then no. You're 8250 is picky. You cannot just mention mfg. You must use specific part number. Here's d*ll's forum for this........

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board?board.id=dim_upgrade

thanks for your help. I just open my 8250 and the memory is samsung MR16R1624DFO-CT9; and in samsungsemi.com it is suggested to use only MR16R1628DFO-CT9 as upgrade choice. Thanks for the link above and it looks right according to the part number. Has anyone bought things from there? Is it a realiable online store?

By the way, anyone who interest 8250memory could check the link below
http://www.samsungusa.com/cgi-bin/nabc/semiconductors/search/productview.jsp
then search MR16R1628DFO-CT9 and you could see detailed product manual!

And I hate those Dell or Kingstone technical support who urge me to buy their own high-value ram while keep those technical info. from me! That is called business and it sucks!

RAMBUS s*cks and only uninformed people can spend money on RDRAM based computers.

128 mb samsung down to Linky $43.05 each

Thank You! We are SOOOOO much more informed now that you have told us!

Now if can just think of a reason why you would want to tell a couple of THOUSAND members of a group that they are "UNINFORMED".

Why not tell all these people! 8250 owners here!

"KVM" memory is single data rate SDRAM (i.e. PC133). "KVR" Kingston parts are RDRAM ValueRAM.

I installed 512MB of Kingston ValueRAM (2 pieces of 256MB 16-bit 8 component modules 32ns, part # KVR1066X16-8/256) in my 8250 a couple of days ago and it works perfectly. Yes, I have seen the geocities page that claims it does not work. Yes, I know that if you call Kingston, they will recommend the more expensive KTD-DM8250 memory. But it does work and it works well. The modules are made by Samsung and Sandra shows the part number as MR16R1628DF0-CT9. I hate when hype/rumor gets repeated as fact.

<Samsung and Sandra shows the part number as MR16R1628DF0-CT9>

Well don't keep us in suspense... How much was the 512....?

Thanks

Excellent thread... let's keep this going as the prices drop more. I'm probably gonna hold out on buying more RAM until it's around $50 for 256 MB.

several brief questions about the Rambus memory.
1. is it interchangeble with Pc2100 DDR memory? Yes, No
2. is there significant performance improvement of you applications? Yes, No
I suppose you are buying them to run some computation intensive programs.
3. what does 16bit 32bit mean? Is PC2100 16bit or 32 bit?

1. NO! it is PC800 or 1066 184pin RIMM memory. Requires 2 128's to make 256 ( Pairs only)
Pc800 is for 400FSB Mobo & 1066 is for 533MHZ fsb Mobo

2. It is required by the above types of Mother ( Main) boards.
With all memory... More is better.. faster is only better if your board/Bios can use it!

3. I know NOTHING about pc 2100. 16 Bit memory/ systems process 16 bits at a time & 32 bit
systems/memory process 32 bits @ a time.
Theory says ( someone help if I am off base)
example a 1GB processor pushing 32 bit system should roughly approach a 2GB system with 16 bit.

of course the opperating system would need to be able to take advantage of the hardware.

as a rule (my theory) Faster systems require much more memory & can utilize it!

Whew.. now where did I hear all that? hmmmm

I may be all wet on this!!! but it's what I got out of the pages I have been viewing after I got the 8250!

Channel A1 128
Channel B1 256
Channel A2 128
Channel B2 CRIMM

1 channel will have 256, and so would the other since the CRIMM would provide continuity.

EQUIPTECH REPLIES:

Quote from the 8250 Manual @ d3ll.com

"Memory modules are the actual components that provide memory for the microprocessor; continuity modules are used only to complete the memory circuit if memory modules are not installed in all of the memory connectors.

Another RDRAM requirement is that memory modules must be installed in pairs of matched memory size. This means that if you purchased your computer with 128 MB of memory installed and you want to add another 128 MB of memory, you must remove the two continuity modules and replace them with two 64-MB memory modules.

NOTICE: You can only install continuity modules in connectors RIMM3 and RIMM4.
HINT: Mixed pairs of PC1066 and PC800 modules all function as PC800.

The only two valid memory configurations are:

A pair of matched memory modules installed in connectors RIMM1 and RIMM2 with continuity modules installed in connectors RIMM3 and RIMM4

or

A pair of matched memory modules installed in connectors RIMM1 and RIMM2 and another matched pair installed in connectors RIMM3 and RIMM4[\\B].

Ya spends y money ya takes ya chances!

LET US KNOW IF IT WORKS!!!
Guys, my experiment has shown that the first plan didn't work. I used a connector to replace RIMM3 and RIMM4, respectively, only to find it issued 8 long "beep"s then everything was completely dead. I have two 128MB samsungs and 2 256MB vikings, I tried all the combinations (placing a matching pair on RIMM1 and RIMM2), and I found only two matchng pairs worked for me.
