Apparently Office Max does not have the same adds for every market.
06/27 - 07/03/ -- 50% off one shipment (up to a $10 value)
The coupon is in Sunday's Office Max Flyer. Airborne Ground is the best value, and transit time is better than UPS in my experience. Airborne also charges a residential fee (The OfficeMax employees sometimes forget to add it in) Ymmv, as far as how many times you can do this in one day/week per store. Insurance Info Link
W. RESIDENTIAL DELIVERY CHARGE For residential delivery of air or ground shipments to all ZIP codes, a charge of $1.35 per shipment will apply in addition to all other applicable charges.
EE. Delivery Area Surcharge For delivery of air or ground shipments to Outlying Delivery Areas (Bold Black ZIP) or Remote Delivery Areas (Light Black ZIP), a charge of $1.75 per shipment will apply in addition to all other applicable charges.

On Wednesday, I tried to use the 50% coupon at the OM closest to my house, and the package came out to be like $12, so the cashier said that I can't use the coupon. I was like "what the," yeah he obviously don't have that many airborne customers and/or can't read. I had to break it down to him, but he disagreed until finally the manager came and straighten things out. Thank God! at least somebody knew how to read. So this morning when I ship there again, coincidentally I forgot my coupon this time and there was no more ads left in the store, but to my surprise, the same guy just took the 50% off automatically. He was probably afraid of being embarassed again or thought that the pieces of paper in my hands were some other coupon, but at any rate, I got what I wanted and that made my morning.

Does anyone know how Air Borne ship rate is compared to FedEx or UPS? 50% coupon is great but if Air Borne is expensive more than double the others, then it's not so good.

You could call and find out. I ship Airborne ground, so the free or 1/2 off is less expensive than any other method. And the speed of delivery is very good.

hmm to me, even without 50% off, airborne was cheaper than UPS. The price was slightly higher than what I got from internet quote but still cheaper than UPS.

Go to the Airborne homepage and click the rates option at the top of the page.
For what it's worth, when you enter the info on your package, they show the Airborne rate and the "comparable" Fedex and UPS rates. Naturally, they show themselves to be cheapest(usually).

Airborne's online rates are usually a few cents cheaper than FedEx or UPS, but most OfficeMax stores jack up the price by 25-33%.

Good luck getting Airborne to back up their own insurance on items shipped. They dropped a computer on the sidewalk right in front of the buyer and admit that they are at fault but 3 months later, 3 faxes later and many hours on the phone they still haven't settled the claim.
They even gave me 50% off on my $48 shipping fee, cut it to half as $24. Isn't the max discount to be $10?

So far Airborne has been very good to me.... I have been using them for about 6 months now and been happy with their service and rate. Since Fedex charge extra for Home Delivery.. I switched to Airborne... Alot of my buyers are even suprised to receive their items next day cause if you ship through them and your buyer is with in the same zone as you are the shipping will be upgarded to next day. One time, I shipped a 20lbs. package/Printer to the L.A. Area from the Bay Area. My buyer was so surprised to received his printer next day... Airborne Express Rocks!!!!
I have been using Airborne Ground for almost a year now. I have had great luck with them. Their rates are the cheapest (with my own account) and I have had three items break and they have always paid for the claim (took about 30-40 days though).
I only use OfficeMax when they have a coupon. Their rates are about 25-30% higher, but if I get $10 off that is a deal!
<< Airborne also charges residential fee, like $1.25 >>
Yeah, this always gets me: If you have a small business account with them, this fee is not imposed till the item is delivered. If you ask for a quote before delivery, this fee is not included - they slap it on suddenly, in the end.

How does one recycle styrofoam peanuts? Thanks, Mark >>
I put them in one of those goodwill type bags that come every few weeks, and when I want to ship a package I have some. If you never ship anything, you can call around and see if there are any recycling programs in your area. I have been using the air pillows a lot lately, they don't add much weight to your package.

UPS sucks. My packages always come beat up by them, but fortunately nothing was ever broken until last week, when my brand new aluminum case arrived with a Huge dent on top. I filed a damaged package claim, but they aren't doing much to let me know what's going on or if they're even going to try to fix the problem...grr
If you go to FEDEX or UPS web site for a price quote, they ask if residential or not. They all charge it. Airborne just states the basic freight charge to that zip on the quote. They tell you:
PLEASE NOTE: Quoted rates shown are for freight charges only based on the weight you entered. Additional charges may apply, including a fuel surcharge.
This is were the 1.50 res. fee is applied. It's not hiden in the final quote.
The USPS is the only carrier who dosn't charge this that I found.

I used to work PT at UPS and you know they have a lot more packages to deal with than Airborne, thus they receive less care and rougher treatment, tired employees would sometimes just drop a heavy load on the ground like a bomb when they are sorting, who knows what kind of damage that can do to delicate devices. I too am satisfied with Airborne, the ground package I shipped from CA to KS arrived two days earlier than quoted.
