(04/22/06)I think that "Multidipping" might be nearing its end as all of Getconnected partners now inform you if you already have cable at your residence and will not let you order. Some links will not even show Comcast as an available option and the only way around that is to manipulate your address (I am not condoning this behavior just informing you about it).

If you are thinking about switching to Comcast High Speed Internet and/or Comcast Cable services, (this thread mostly applies to Comcast) this thread should be your one stop shopping/reference guide. Please Read the first 5 posts by Shahhere on this page before posting any questions on this thread as most if not all of your answers will be answered within these posts.

Comcast Cable Service offers (some rebates could be applied for other cable providers; scroll below for High Speed Internet Service):

    Comcast Offers Directly from Comcast.

    • Comcast Offer 1: Dish Buyback with $400 back.(No Exp date available)

Get up to $400 from Comcast if you tell them that you want to get rid of your dish. This is a 16 month program where they give you a $25 credit towards your bill per month but does state that you need Digital Cable service. Most everyone who have ordered were told by Comcast that this offer does require a premium package purchase which starts at around $60 and then your $25 on top of that monthly rate. Many people have reported that they were not required to turn in any equipment or anything for this program but YMMV. I myself did not have to turn in any equipment. The above linked page mentions New England but I know sure that this offer applies pretty much everywhere.

    • Comcast Offer 2: Second Dish Buyback program that I signed up for unadvertised(No Exp date available)

I was offered the following offer that I signed up for:

Basic, Expanded Standard, Digital all for $29.95 per month for 1 year with the following add-on options:
HSI for $20 a month for 1 year
DVR for $9.95 a month for 1 year
Premium Channel for $10 a month for 1 year (YMMV as I was told Premium channel but might be limited to HBO only)
Also comes with free installation to up to 3 outlets & 1 for HSI service.

Similar requirements to this offer as above where you would have to turn in your dish equipment (Receiver) to receive the above promos and rates, and YMMV as I myself did not have to turn in the equipment.

Moderator Edit: This post has been moved to Deal Discussion, since the thread is now focused more on locating the the current deals than reporting them.

************* Recent update as of Dec, 2005 *************
As of December 22, 2005 some members have reported that the rebate center can see all of the orders you have signed up for and seem to be canceling them, hence another YMMV.

This thread is about multi-dipping => getting multiple rebates for getting a comcast service. You sign up for service at many sites (Staples, Dell, Circuit City etc) and CAN posiibly get rebates from multiple sources.

If you have a comcast service already - you can get these deals by signing up under some other household members name etc.

This is a quick summary. Read the first 10 posts for all the info you need.

And yeah - this is a GREAT thread. if you are cant read atleast the first 10 posts - you are welcome to move on to the next thread. it requires some effort and the payoff can be good.

Just a heads up, I was charged 1.99 for downgrading service from digital cable to basic cable.

Comcast High-Speed Internet (HSI) Service (some rebates can be applied for other cable providers):

To get the best deal for High Speed Internet (HSI) Service, first get either Basic or Extended Cable services or use the above post for deals related to Cable. This will avoid any additional installation charges from Comcast, since Comcast charges an installation fee for "Basic Cable Installation". You can just pick up a Self Installation Kit which essentially is just a Coaxial Cable (50 & 2 feet), a 2 way splitter, and a Comcast CD. You do not NEED the kit to get HSI; all you really need is a coaxial cable and a 2 way splitter to connect your cable modem to.

Free/Discounted Modem deals (Owning a modem will save you at least $3 a month on rental fees from Comcast)

Best practice steps and FAQ's to get the most out of this deal, if you plan to get HSI (Read this post before you ask questions):

  • 1. This does not really belong in this section but I have been asked this too many times: YOU CANNOT get charged multiple times for singing up with the above deals (multiple dip), because you can only get billed from Comcast and you cannot physically have more then ONE connection per address no matter how many times you signup. The only thing you pay for to the above retailers is for any equipment (modems, self install kits, etc.) all billing is by Comcast. I know this because I thought about this before I originally post this deal and saw this loop hole and this deal has been around for over a year.

  • 2. First Sign up for Comcast Cable TV if you have not already done so, because for HSI Comcast requires you to have basic cable at the least or else pay a higher monthly rate. If you get anything other then basic, then most of the times the installation charges are waived. Also if you get a package deal with a premium channel then you can apply for the rebates I have listed on the front page as well for those premium channels (Showtime, Cinemax, HBO, etc). Most of the premium package promos are $19.99 or $29.99 a month for either 3 or 6 months.

  • 3. Wait for the cable guy to come out and "install" Cable TV. For previous owners, they still have to come out and clear your line for connection.

  • 4. Sign up for the HSI deals at Staples/Comcastoffers/Dell/BB/CC and print out rebate forms. This step can be done before the first two, but the “install” shouldn’t be until after you are “installed” for Cable TV.

  • 5. Call Comcast after installation to activate HSI. If you selected the Self Install option then just wire everything to your computer and just give the Comcast rep the MAC ID number of the cable modem and you should be set to go. It doesn’t really matter if you call them directly (1800Comcast) or off one of the signup page numbers, they are all handled by Comcast but just by different departments. Though sometimes you will get different promos from the diff departments, so if you don’t get the $19.99 a month promo then call the other numbers. There no real need to mention unless asked for as to where you signed up, and if asked just mention the retailer from whon you can get the best value from, be it either modem or money (for example $130 rebate from Staples or Free modem +$50 rebate from Comcast offers/BB).

  • 6. Wait for the first bill that shows HSI on it and then send in the rebates.

    Now a few FAQ’s:

  • 1. Most of the rebates require that you “install” service within 30 days after you sign up for the rebates so keep that in mind. They also say "requests must be postmarked within 90 (or 150) days”. Those days refer to the days from when you signing up for the rebates up to them receiving the actual mailed in rebate along with your first bill. If you activate service promptly (within 30 days from signing up for the rebates) then you should be fine with the rebate postmark window along with your first bill.

  • 2. If you do not need the premium cable channels or after you are done with the rebates/promos for Cable TV you can always go back down to basic cable which comes out to about $13 including the taxes /month.

  • 3. If you do not want Cable TV at all anymore after a month or so, or you just signed up for TV to get the HSI promo rate and free install, I do believe that its okay to cancel after the first month or so (from what others have posted on this thread, I haven’t done that so far.) The only thing that I can see with that scenario is that when your HSI runs out Comcast will be a little leery to give you the new promo rate unless you get Cable TV or Basic for the least, else be jacked up to the ransom rates.

  • 4. Here are a few suggestion notes for people who cancel service and starting new service under a different name to take advantage of the new offers:

If the name on the account currently is completely different, such as a different last name, then the whole process (canceling and resigning new service) will be easy as cake.
Just put a different phone number when signing up for new service, as that is one of the main parameters that Comcast uses to identify accounts.

Now if the current last name is the same one as yours then you might have problems getting connected for “New” service and a “New” account. The problems I am referring to are with new offers/promotions and billing. My suggestion in that case would be to actually cancel the service, if possibly by going into your local office and return any rented equipment and “Paying off” any account balance due and closing the account then and there. DO NOT start “New” service until your previous account’s balance is cleared (zero balance) and closed as they can retroactively add any balance to your “New” account.

I tried to do the whole cancel and restart new service (I had 3 weeks of downtime) but I still had a balance due on the old account because for some reason despite the fact I returned the equipment Comcast kept saying that I did not “Cancel” service. So long story short, I said I won’t pay because I clearly asked them to cancel service and they did not. 4 months, 2 collection notice and Comcast transferring the balance onto my New account, I finally got a rep who saw the truth about what I was saying and cleared up the whole mess. The bastardss at Comcast not only put the $60 balance onto my new account but ALSO turned in the balance to collections, and so technically making me pay TWICE.

Here is a trick that Spartan came up with that may help you resolve the issue with HSI not showing up for your address

    1) Use IE.
    2) Go to http://www.bestbuy.com. Click on "Internet Services", then "Compare Plans". A popup will appear.
    3) Do a Ctrl-N. A new window will appear, but this one will have the address bar visible. This is important.
    4) Enter your phone number + the address of your neighbor who's address DOES appear in comcast's/getconnected's database. Click "Find Plans"
    5) The system will perform it's search and present you with the packages. Click on "Comcast High-Speed Internet - Cable Customer".
    6) Note the URL at this point. Copy everying after "v_internet" onto your clipboard (ctrl-c). Also note that your neighbor's address is listed in the upper right hand corner of the webpage.
    7) Click the change button to change your address.
    8) Enter YOUR address and select "Find Plans". You will then be presented with a list of plans that does not include Comcast HSI.
    9) Paste the URL fragment that is on your clipboard into the address bar replacing the "v_internet" string and everything after it and hit enter.
    10) You will now see Comcast's Plan AND your address is now showing up in the upper right hand corner of the screen! Simply click the "Select Plan" button and purchse the plan normally."

This thread by DVDerek, outlines how you can lower your current cable bill.

So to sum it all up for you, this is how it looked for me the first time around i did this deal in Aug, 2003:

I paid $20 each for Internet and Digital Cable with HBO per month and then received all the below listed items without a problem:

    $75 rebate from Dhell
    $80 rebate from Dhell
$115 from Best Buy (Modem + Self-Install Kit + Signup Bonus)
$60 from CC for Signing with them.
    $20 HBO family rebate
    $20 G&L rebate
    $20 G&L rebate Seond One
    $20 Latino rebate

Again, some of these items might be YMMV and may vary depending on what area you are in.

One more thing, even though I signed up at the retailers I had to call to confirm as they did not automatically start service after i signed up nor did anyone contact me from Comcast. The confirmation information was listed on the printouts, at least at Best Buy and Circuit City.

I finally received all my rebates for the Cable Modem from Best Buy ($20 was pending) for a total of $115 back in rebates from them.

Also received 5 of my 5 rebates for $20 each for the HBO ones listed above.

Also received $75 from Dell/Comcast signup as well.
Received another $80 from Dell/Comcast that was emailed in the confirmation signup and had to refax to rebatestatus.

For a grand total of, $270 back in rebates for $115 worth of items (cable modem, self-install kit). I already sold the modem for $75.

The thing is that when I called to confirm, Comcast had no idea what the hell I was talking about even though I had an order confirmation from Dell that I was giving to Comcast. So what I did was I signed up through Circuit City again, and still faced the same results, then I repeated it again with Best Buy.

So all in all, I had all these confirmation e-mail’s from the respective Retailer but they had nothing to do with Comcast directly, and was only for rebate purposes and internal purposes for each retailer. I know I am loopholing the system, but I got all the items they were featuring from three different retailers; $75, Cable Modem (cc), Cable Modem (best buy). And yes I did get their rebates, as well as the other HBO rebates mentioned above.

Nice job shahhere!

Expired rebates and offers for reference, seperated by Expired Months.

Out of date info removed.

Bought a modem last weekend from Best Buy,came with $130 in rebates. They are installing basic cable for $8.70 a month and high-speed for $19.99 a month for 6 months tommorow morning.

Don't forget knowit2's post about the $400 credit for turning in a satellite dish. I just moved and called them in advance. Told them about how I was ready to get a satellite so if they could match the $400 promotional deal I'd go with them, the csr was incredible and matched not only that but more. I also explained how Staples had a $50 rebate for internet with $19.99/month for first 6 months. She honored the $19.99/month and also credited the $50 towards my first months cable bill. All of the above is a YMMV but if you don't get a good CSR simply call back. Here is the link for the satellite deal and remember, if you don't have a satellite don't worry about it, they didn't even ask me for one and if they do, you can find one on eBay for like $30.

wait i don't understand how Dell can give you a $75 rebate for buying any Cable service?? Do you have to have a Dell Computer????? i have a laptop lol.. Also if i get cOmcast od i buy the Radio Shack Cable Modem first and then install myself??
wut if i already have cable?

edit: is this better than PAc Bell DSL? 29.95 for one year, thats the only one i thinkg if i go through Dell rebate website? thxs

I just got Comcast cable installed on 8/14 for $4.95 install fee (This was also for new construction. That is usually $60 in my area) with the first month of Digital cable for $9.95. $14.90 total. Before my month of Digital Cable is up, I am calling and dropping the service down to limited access for $12 a month.

The next day I walked in to Best Buy and signed up for broadband through BB. I payed $103 total including tax for the modem and the self started kit. I get $145 back in MIR on the deal. I pocket over $40 for doing the deal through BB. Monthly rate for broadband is $29 until 2004 then it jumps to $42.50 a month.

Best deal I could work in my area.

VVarwick

I'm extremely jealous. Somehow I can't get DSL in my area (DC suburb in Northern Virginia), and Cox Communications would be my cable subscriber. Since I have DirectTV and am not a cable TV customer, high speed cable Internet would cost $55/month. How much longer can I stay alive with dial-up at home??

What you can do is sign up for the cheapest cable package they have. This is usually 8 bucks or so for your local stations and nothing else. This qualifies you as a "cable customer" so that you can get the cheaper rate for their internet service. Even if you don't bother watching your locals over the cable it will still save you 10-15 bucks a month.

I just moved to bay area, they gave me a deal for 3 months at $20, but no hbo =/, I asked for hbo, they are asking me to pay 70+ per month. Comcast seems to be robbing people here, unless I am missing some other promotions =/

So do i install modem myself??

Also i have AOL 3 year agreement and about 6 months left payin about $20 a month ........ For the last 6 months is it possible to sale it to someone else , by transfereing accounts or something? im not sure please help

Thanks OP. I posted the following question in another thread but guess I can ask it here as well.

"Just found this awesome deal. Thank you for the OP. I had subscribed showtime on 5/23. Does anyone know whether I am qualified for the rebate (valide from 6/1-9/30)? Jerseygirl007 mentioned a rebate form valid from 4/1-6/30/03 but seems the new form overwrites that one on showtime's website.

Anybody help?"

Thank you!

As long as you send in the Required rebate information, which in this case would be dated bills starting 06/01 for a total of 3 bills=3 months service you should be fine. Make sure you make copies if you do need to send it in for other rebates, as the Showtime Rebate does require the originals only. Since you started Service 5/23 you will not get your bill until the month after anyways.

Goodluck, and yes Jerseygirl007 is a very good person to ask about these rebates as she stays on top of all kinds of deals and rebate and whats who i would turn to as well to update this thread from time to time.
