KRON QUIT OFFERING THIS SERVICE IN 2006: "Call KRON 4 Contact4 Consumer Volunteers, 11am to 1 pm pacific time, M-F @ (800)414-5766. This service is provided by Channel 4 BayArea News Station. They will represent you to deal with the company, bad companies will be most likely give in to your request because they are afraid of bad publicity. I think it works for the whole United States, or your local area's news stations may have similar service." |

Filing a BBB complaint against a rebate center is the easiest way to ensure your rebate. Funny how you can call the CSR and they tell you there is nothing you can do. You file a complaint and like magic and within a week's time your check is in the mail. |

If you don't have that info, there's not much you can do about it. |

Just for grins, here is the email I sent today to the president of Fairpoint Communications: Dear Mr. Nixon: At 2 PM on July 29, 2009 my wife and I spoke with a male customer service representative and his supervisor at 877-342-7097 regarding an offer of a 3 month trial of Internet service with Fairpoint for $9.95/month. According the representative the service was to begin on August 11 and on November 11, after three months, the rate would revert to the normal one. So far, so good and we were ready to accept the offer. At this point, the male representative indicated that we might want to avail ourselves of a different offer of $19.95/month for 6 months. He said the rate would revert to the normal one on January 11, 2010. I attempted to correct him as January 11 would only be 5 months from August 11 but he was adament that it was 6 months. His supervisor, Amy, continued to insist the 6 month rate would end on January 11. After 5 minutes of futility, I finally gave up and terminated the call as I am not sure I would want to rely on service from a company whose employees can't do a simple calendar calculation. If you tape these calls for training purposes, then you should use ours as a perfect example of how to lose a potential customer. Sincerely, |

Update: Just got a call from the head of Fairpoint's call centers apologizing for the error the rep and supervisor made. President had sent it to her as soon as he received it. She could not understand how they could be so confused. She said they will be reviewing the tape of the conversation and both employees will be "retrained". I can see them sitting in front of a big calendar being shown how to use it. Small victories. |

After reading this post, I opened a complaint with BBB about my never come rebate just to give it a shoot. It worked like a magic. I was trying for it since last 11-12 months for which rebate company changed my address(just to say we sent check) & they never did. I re-sent all my rebate submission but no luck. They were giving me all possible excuses but no rebate. After complaint with BBB, today I received rebate. I am so happy. This happiness is not about money but about principle and business practice. Kudos to thread opener. |
