I dont quite understand your concept. Is SMC the higher (best) of the bunch or DLINK?I disagree no matter what direction his equation is in IMHO Linksys with Sveasoft firmware is the best, and I'd probably put Buffalo in 2nd place and Netgear in 3rd. I currently own Buffalo, D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, Belkin, SMC and Compaq wired/wireless routers and APs.
Yes, Linksys and Buffalo are up there alright... Quality products.
Linksys = Cisco |

TIA
I'd like to know too if this router can be used as an Access Point?
ALL WIRELESS routers can be used as an Access Point.. Regardless of Make/Model
If the actual question was "can this router support wireless bridging?", the answer is yes. All wireless routers are access points as lillazyfats81 pointed out.
All wireless routers are APs, yes, by definition, but that's NOT the same as bridging!!! Bridging means one AP can talk to *another* AP! Not all wireless routers do. My D-Link DI-624 can't, which is why I picked up this Belkin a few weeks ago. Many consumer model wireless routers only provide "nominal" AP support, no bridging, to keep costs down. You must specifically look for WDS (wireless bridging) support in the documentation, or else you ain't getting it!
Again, don't confuse support for "access point" as "bridging". A bridge is always an access point, by definition, but an access point isn't necessarily a bridge.

the rebate form at rebateshq is actually a Staples MIR, see it here:
http://www.stapleseasyrebates.com/promocenter/Staples/promo_detail.html?productId=1025463&bundleId=26067
so probably Staples will add one $10 MIR, no deals here, so tomorrow will go for cc's deal |

Go to DSLReports to see what those folks think of this router. I browsed through the forum briefly, and most folks seem to have a pretty good experience w/ it. I saw pretty much the same person complaining on a lot of the threads, so don't let that scare you away |

well maybe i am wrong? here two MIRs go to: Attach the following required proof of purchase for WIRELESS 54G ROUTER MODEL#F5D7230-4: Orig. rebate form Original Packing Slip Store Receipt Mail this form and the proof of purchase to the following address:
Staples ( Dept. 04-87992 ), P.O. BOX 028513 MIAMI, FL 33102-8513 1-877-266-6483
Attach the following required proof of purchase to this form: • Store Receipt • Original UPC Code Mail the proof of purchase and a copy of this form to: Dept. # 04-78628 P.O. Box 028515 Miami FL 33102-8515 1-888-461-9822.
so probably Staples is not a qualified seller.

What timezone are the Staples servers considered to be "running" in? Basically, What time central time do I need to wait before ordering online to have my purchase be considered as placed within the valid dates for the rebate? |

are you sure?
the $20 I found on RebatesHQ.com is Promotion: 04-78628 valid 8/1/04 - 6/1/05 (1 rebate per household etc The Staples Rebate, on the otherhand is Promotion 04-87992 ... valid 11/7/04 - 11/27/04 (upto 10 rebates)
The way I see it is, Worst case senario: $50 - $30MIR = $20.00 (As advertised) Probably senario: $50 - $20 MIR (04-78628) - $20 MIR (04-87992) - $10 (so far unlisted) = $FAR Best case senario: $50 - $20 MIR (04-78628) - $20 MIR (04-87992) - $30 (so far unlisted) : $-20 ...
If you are not prepared to loose $20, then this is not a deal for you ... if you aren't worried about it, then its a great deal!

Nope it was $69.99, I will just PM to my local circular's price in the morning. Voila! The key was to make sure the order date said 11/14 |

I got this router from Frys deal a month ago. It was my 3rd router. Wireless connection was fine but it kept losing internet connection every 3 - 4 hours. I upgraded firmware and contacted belkin customer support but couldn't fix it. I didn't return it because it was FAR. I gave up and bought another rounter (netgear) and it worked fine again. Yes, it does support WDS (wireless distribution system) like linksys and buffalo. You can bridge them if you have those routers. |

It may be just the quality of Belkin products. I had a Belkin wired router and had to reset it almost every day. For my old Linksys, it was at least every couple months that I had to reset it once. |

I have two desktops to share cable using a wired router at home. I was wondering if I can connect this wireless router to my wired router so that I can use wireless access for my laptop. Can anybody help me to answer my question? |

Yes. But of course, this router can completely replace your existing router, it supports 4 LAN ports as well, so wired and wireless clients are supported concurrently. But if you have reason to continue use of your current wired router (perhaps you prefer its features, don't wish to reconfigure your firewall rules, whatever), what you can do is place this Belkin router in AP ONLY mode, then run a crossover cable between it and the old router (if one or the other supports MDIX, a standard cable will work also). Now configure your wireless clients to use the AP. When they do, they'll be dropped on your old wired router for DHCP, NAT, firewall, etc. Your choice.
