Looks like the smart chip is for sale directly, but again no idea how much. You have to submit a quote and they get back to you on it. Per their website any order under $60 incurs a $10 processing fee so might want to buy a few and eBay off the remainder. uninetimaging |

can we use canon toner for refilling 1600n cartridge?
now we are talking about expensive chip & drum replacement for this 1600n. I start to dislike it when thinking other laser printers only cost $7-$9 per refill and no chip replacement.

In case anyone is interested, toner kits for the 1600 are being offered on eBay for about $25-$30 shipped (2 toner refills per kit - pretty reasonable) No, I am not the one selling them, just providing you the info. Not ready to buy yet myself, but good to know they are making it out into the marketplace.

I sent an email to the supplier noted on the previous link asking for additional information that I will post once answer is received regarding chip compatibility with toner program etc. Perhaps we can negotiate a preferred rate for the fw forum board of 1600n owners. We are making progress since those initial dark days. |

Yes we are, and thanks for everyone's work. I have checked with that eBay seller, and they sell both 3K and 5K refill kits for not much difference in price. The 5K have hi-yield in the auction title. |

Just $2 more for the 5K and $1 extra in shipping is a no-brainer; however, is the 3K cartridge the same size (filled to less capacity with a different chip) than the 5K cartridge? If it is, we buy the larger 5K refill kit and just change the chip. If not, then we'd have to get a hold of the larger 5K cartridge (Samsung?), too. |

I suspect the cartridge is physically the same. Looking at the 3K original, don't know how they could make it any larger and make it fit. But I still have 50% toner, so have a long way to go before I get a chance to to test it out. |

I checked with the seller on eBay and they are the same size cartridges (3000 and 5000 page cartidges). The only difference is the chip on the cartridge. So you can use the "Hi-Yield" refills on the 3000 page starter cartridge according to them. As you say, buying the high yield over the 3000 page refill is a no brainer. |

That's great news! $32.33 for a 2 cartridge hi-yield 5K refill kit, which includes the toner, chips and shipping, is a fair price (even for a FatWalleter). I hope the price doesn't go up in the next few months; I'm still at 80%, but this is the kind of news I needed to hear to kick up that toner use into high gear. |

lol... I agree... Maybe I'll turn off "Toner Save" now and stop looking so cheap with everything coming out kinda dark grey instead of black. |

response received from eBay seller referred to above
We have received several requests for the Dell refill and have worked hard to make a kit available for our customers. The chip we use is manufactured by a company we have worked closely with for years. It is compatible with the Dell printer and performs the same way the OEM cartridge chip does

I must say that I have been quite impressed with this machine. Original toner gave me 4200 copies and (yes I did buy a second high yield cartridge using concession coupon of course) for refill purposes has given me 4000 copies so far with 60% still remaining. I am using toner save and have set my print setting to draft with no appreciable difference. |

Hey Guys,
I bought the toner refill from eBay, just fininshed the orginal today and tried out the refill. Installation was very easy, and the toner count now reads 100%. Everything seems to be working fine. |

ordered from tonerkits...came quickly....toner and chips...suggestion when opening cartridge to insert chip, use canned air to clean out cartridge from older toner (do it outside) and cartridge should last a little longer. All in all one heck of a printer and even better wehn the refills are $14....by the way as mentioned I am finding that the 5000 page toner is lasting around 8000 pages on toner save...incredible |
